Horacio Rodríguez Larreta calls Mauricio Macri, Bullrich and Vidal and this noon announces the call for "concurrent" elections

2023-04-10T13:34:58.800Z

The head of Government will make use of his faculties and will call the Buenos Aires election with separate ballots and ballot boxes from the national one. Maximum tension in the PRO.

Horacio Rodríguez Larreta

returned this morning after 6 in the morning from a trip to Barcelona to visit his daughter and made two decisions: not to travel again in the year to dedicate himself fully to his pre-presidential candidacy.

And the other, perhaps the most relevant of his entire political career, that of

confirming that he will call elections with ballots and ballot boxes separate from the national one to define the next head of Buenos Aires government

.

This decision, advanced by Clarín last Friday, is to call "concurrent" elections, this is the same day of the national election where the next President will be defined but with separate ballot boxes and ballots, so that the people of Buenos Aires define Head of Government porteño.

Therefore,

this noon, Rodríguez Larreta will announce his decision true to his style, with a communication through social networks

.

The current mayor of Buenos Aires will do so after calling Mauricio Macri, María Eugenia Vidal and Patricia Bullrich by phone so that they know his decision from his mouth.

But the announcement will be today through Redes and on the day the decree will come out making this call effective.

Thus,

Larreta will cling to the Electoral Code, in its Article 111 of Law 6031 that talks about the "Single Ballot."

"It is established as an instrument of suffrage for the electoral processes of pre-candidates and candidates of political groups to all local elective public offices of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, as well as for the citizen participation procedures enshrined in articles 65 , 66 and 67 of the Constitution of the Autonomous City of Buenos Aires, to the Single Ballot, according to the criteria established in this Code".

And this call may also be with electronic voting: "The Electoral Management Institute may incorporate electronic technologies in the vote casting procedure, providing for the implementation of an Electronic Ballot Casting System under the terms of article 136. In that case, The characteristics of the instrument of suffrage shall be governed by the provisions set forth in Chapter III of this Title."

Beyond the fine letter of the law

, Larreta decided to face the strongest political battle of his career, which is to dispute Mauricio Macri

, who has been supporting his cousin Jorge to be the PRO candidate for the Buenos Aires succession.

This Sunday,

former President Mauricio Macri said on Radio Rivadavia's "Si pasa, pasa" program

that "we must not change the rules in the electoral year", given a possible unfolding of the elections in the city of Buenos Aires... The 'no' to change electoral rules in the electoral year is a value that Together for Change (JxC) has placed in its declarations of principles.

I don't think Horacio would make that decision, it would go against everything we've worked for so many years," Macri said.

In addition to Macri.

The PRO presidential candidates María Eugenia Vidal and Patricia Bullrich also spoke out against the so-called "concurrent elections" in the city of Buenos Aires.

In larretism they review that, except in 2019 at the request of Mauricio Macri and Marcos Peña, the Buenos Aires elections were separated from the national one.

And that that year, they were not at the request of Macri and his chief of staff to help in the attempt to re-election the head of the PRO.

In 99/2000, in 2003, in 2007, in 2011 and in 2015 there were separate elections between Nation and City.

Now, it remains to know the detail of Rodríguez Larreta's call for "concurrent" elections and

the political confrontation between Mauricio Macri and Rodríguez Larreta will grow in this way

.

Then, the definition of how the PRO candidacy will be resolved will continue, since

not only is Jorge Macri in the discussion, but the applications of Soledad Acuña and Fernán Quirós for that position are still valid.

The concurrent elections would imply that the porteños vote on the same day as the PASO for the categories president and national deputies, but with a different voting system.

According to this scheme, the porteños could vote on the same day for president and national legislators with the so-called traditional sheet ballot, while for the head of government, local legislators and community members, a single paper or electronic ballot would be used.
