Pope Francis addressed last night (Sunday) the security escalation in Israel and called on the Israelis and Palestinians to form a "climate of trust".

He said these things in the traditional Easter blessing.

The Pope also prayed for the Ukrainian people and the Russian people and called for an end to the war.

The 86-year-old Pope delivered his traditional speech in St. Peter's Square in the Vatican in front of tens of thousands of believers, encouraging "trust between individuals, peoples and nations."

Referring to the security escalation in the country, the Pope called for "the renewal of dialogue, in a climate of trust and mutual respect between Israelis and Palestinians, with the goal that peace reigns in the Holy City and in the entire region."

Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Francis has repeatedly called for a cessation of hostilities and offered prayers for the Ukrainian people.

"Help the beloved Ukrainian people in their journey to peace, and pour the holiday light on Russia," he prayed in his speech.

He also urged the international community to act to end the war in Ukraine and to end "every conflict and bloodshed in the world".

The Pope also prayed for those who lost their family members in the earthquake that struck Turkey and Syria about two months ago, in which tens of thousands of people died.

In his prayer, he also asked world leaders to guarantee that "no man or woman will face discrimination."

In addition, he demanded that there be "full respect for human rights and democracy."

The Pope was hospitalized about two weeks ago in the hospital in Rome due to a respiratory infection.

Following his illness, he skipped the traditional Good Friday procession at the Colosseum in Rome.

Even towards the end of his speech, his voice became hoarse and he stopped to cough.

Even so, he circled the square several times at the end, waving and smiling at the crowd.
