"Today the nights are very long for us, nights full of memories, nostalgia, nights of anger towards those who have not acted before. Anger because it could have been avoided and now there is no going back".

This was said during the funeral ceremony by Carlo Papi, the father of the 26-year-old runner who died on Mount Peller last April 5th.

His speech was greeted with applause.

"But we are not the only ones who cannot sleep: those who are responsible for all this cannot sleep peacefully. Andrea help us find forgiveness within ourselves, towards those who are unable to humbly apologize for their actions and for unacceptable wickedness right now. This forgiveness is too big for us," he later said.

"Andrea we have to give you justice, give you dignity. It's the only thing we can do today.

"We are all here a little shocked. Our tears mingle with those of our family members. We entrust our commitment to the Lord so that such great and painful tragedies never happen again".

The parish priest of Caldes, don Renato Pellegrini, said it at the opening of the funeral of Andrea Papi.

Outside the church about three thousand people watch the ceremony.

"We accompany Andrea on his last journey. Andrea will live in our hearts in our memories", added Pellegrini.

Jj4 is the bear responsible for the killing of the 26-year-old Trentino runner Andrea Papi, attacked in the woods above Caldes on 5 April.

"After the attack, the operations to control the area started, managed full-time for the day and twilight hours by a team of the Trentino Forestry Corps. Now that we know exactly which specimen is responsible (Jj4) we must begin to intercept it and find the most appropriate positions for capture", Fabio Angeli, director of the forest district of Malè, in Trentino, told ANSA.

The 17-year-old plantigrade was born in Trentino from two specimens from Slovenia, Joze and Jurka

, released between 2000 and 2001 as part of the Life Ursus project.

On June 22, 2020, Jj4 attacked two people, father and son, on Mount Peller.

The Provincial Government of Trento had asked for it to be demolished.

The arrest warrant was canceled by the Tar.

   "

Jj4's radio collar is empty, but in any case it is an efficient tool for monitoring movements, not for management"

.

Says Fabio Angeli, director of the Malè forest district, in Trentino.

"When it works, the radio collar transmission arrives 5-6 minutes late only if there is telephone coverage. Unfortunately, this side of the mountain has no coverage", Angeli specified, assuring that everything possible is being done to capture the exemplary "as soon as possible".

Runner dead in Trentino, for the inhabitants of Caldes attacked by a bear

"In 2020 Jj4 carried out an attack on two people. Monitoring operations have begun since then, but he was with the puppies.

In 2021 he abandoned the puppies very early; in 2022 there was a new birth", Angeli specified , specifying that in this period, usually, the puppies leave their mother.

Pipe traps could be used for catching, but, in case of emergency, snares or a shotgun can also be used.

For the felling, for which the order was signed by the President of the Province, Maurizio Fugatti, there is talk of an operation "which must be done in safety, respecting the established procedures".

"Capture times are not predictable", concluded Paolo Zanghellini,

On any deficiencies in the management of bears in Trentino "there is a technical table with the Province of Trento, Ispra and the Ministry. At the end of the table I will be able to say".

This was stated by the Minister of the Environment and Energy Security, Gilberto Pichetto, on the sidelines of a WWF conference in Rome on crimes against nature.
