As unusual as it is unprecedented.
Several DJs and rappers will invest the top of the highest tower of the basilica of Fourvière, next April 27, for a concert event broadcast live 500 meters further, on the place Saint-Jean which borders the cathedral.
An event organized by the QDS collective with the blessing of the Fourvière Foundation.
“
We said to ourselves that we wanted to reconcile current music and heritage.
We contacted the foundation, which quickly appreciated the approach and said to itself “why not”
, confides Renaud, one of the founders of QDS.
And to add: "
This event is symbolic for us because it allows us to associate the basilica and techno music, which is often frowned upon, whereas it is a form of culture like any other
".
The organizers also want to be reassuring about the purpose of this outdoor concert.
“
We understand that this project can be worrying.
But we are not here to argue.
It is an event combining culture and heritage, there is no offense to religion at all
, ”assures Renaud.
Fourvière outside the walls
For its part, the Fourvière Foundation explains that it very quickly accepted the idea of organizing - after the agreement of the rector of the religious building - this concert event: "
We want to show that a lot of things can happen around the basilica. , even if it is a place of worship.
By linking emerging artists and heritage, we show that we are close to what is happening in town and to everything that is being done today
”.
A choice that is part of the continuity of the work carried out for several years to restore life to the surroundings of Fourvière, with the installation of new restaurants but also by the organization of occasional events, like the arrival of the chef Mory Sacko, in 2021, for a month on an ephemeral terrace.
For its part, the collective promises a memorable evening from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. with local DJs Bernadette, Soraä, Kangaroo and rappers El Bobby and Gab on the program.
A sixth artist will be chosen via a springboard competition.
The show will be filmed live with two cameras and a drone and broadcast below, Place Saint-Jean, before ending with the projection on the image tower, like the Festival of Lights.
Crowdfunding has been launched to cover the costs of this free outdoor event.
