Garmisch-Partenkirchen

– The anniversary ridge – it awakens the longings of mountaineers.

No wonder when you see it majestically from below.

Only: Overconfidence often grows with longing.

Then the mountain rescue service comes into play.

Around the Holy and Easter days, the Garmisch-Partenkirchen mountain rescuers were deployed twice to free stuck alpinists.

Always a challenge, especially on this exposed ridge.

Mountain rescue service on Easter holidays - weather makes rescue difficult

This became particularly clear in the second case on Easter Sunday, because the weather made the rescue operation more difficult.

The mountaineer had already set off on his big tour on Good Friday and reached the bivouac box from which he wanted to continue the next morning.

However, the weather did not cooperate on Holy Saturday.

So he stayed there for another day before moving on Sunday morning.

But he didn't get very far.

At around 8 a.m. we couldn’t go any further at the outer Höllentalspitze.

He alerted the mountain rescue service.

However, she had great difficulty in getting to the man.

Several approaches with the police helicopter failed due to the weather.

Two mountain rescuers could not be dropped off in the vicinity until around 2 p.m.

They brought the climber back to the bivouac.

At around 3:30 p.m., the man was lowered 40 meters into the Reintal, where another mountain watchman and the helicopter were able to pick him up.

However, dense fog prevented the two mountain rescue teams from being brought back down to the valley.

They had to stay on the mountain until 6.30 p.m. before they could descend to Höllental and be admitted there.

Twelve hours of action with a happy ending.

Two young mountaineers had misjudged the conditions on the Wednesday before and had to be fetched from the inner Höllentalspitze.

With the help of the rescue helicopter Christoph 1, the mountain rescue service was able to do this in three hours.
