The initiators of the aborted refugee settlement project in Callac, Brittany, have filed a complaint against X, in particular for "
harassment
" and "
provocation to hatred
", announced on Wednesday April 12 the patrons and their lawyer, who wish to establish the "
complicity
" of the extreme right in these actions.
The Breton municipality gave up in January to welcome a few dozen refugees, after the multiplication of demonstrations hostile to the project and the intensification of pressure weighing on the city councilor and local elected officials, targeted in particular by death threats.
“Complaint against X”
At the same time, the founding family of the Merci endowment fund, at the origin of the implementation project, was targeted by a "
litany of abusive, threatening, anti-Semitic messages
", explained Wednesday Me Vincent Brengarth, during a conference Press.
"
For these reasons, we decided to file a complaint against X on March 17 before the public prosecutor of Paris
", for "
online harassment, incitement to hatred or even insult because of the true or supposed membership of a religion
,” he continued.
The complaint also targets "
a probable complicity of the media which (...) let a nauseating climate hover
", added Mr. Brengarth, naming the site Riposte Laïque.
"
We are expecting an extremely strong reaction
" from justice and public authorities, because it is "
unthinkable that municipalities give up on such important projects (...) because of the climate of intimidation that a minority seeks to impose
" , he insisted.
Possible complicity of “certain parties”
In Callac, "
we had to deal with mafia methods, with death threats, rape, daily violence which ended up paying: people were afraid", lamented Benoît
Cohen, administrator of the Merci Fund.
The legal action must also make it possible to investigate the possible complicity "
of certain political parties (...) which could have been at the origin of gatherings and demonstrations
" in Callac, in the first place Reconquest!

There is a political stratagem of parties which seek to exploit initiatives
” such as the installation of refugees in Callac with “
electoral
” aims, he estimated.
Several other complaints have been filed by journalists who have covered the outbreak of fever in Callac, including that of a journalist from France 3 and France Télévisions, in particular against the Riposte Laïque site.
On the side of the mayor and elected officials of Callac, “
