In Bordeaux, the festival of free and independent beers puts 54 breweries in the spotlight

The Bordeaux Free and Independent Beer Festival (BLIB) returns to the metropolis for its 7th edition, with events all week long, including the grand finale this Saturday at Hangar 14.

There is something for every taste.

This week, the Bordeaux Free and Independent Beer Festival (BLIB), organized by the eponymous association, is back in the metropolis for its seventh edition.

Until Friday, dozens of events are taking place in several establishments in the agglomeration, before the grand finale on Saturday, which will reward the best brewer among the 60 participants in this edition (54 breweries, four cider houses and two "soft drinks

without alcohol

”).

The idea is to introduce beer to all audiences, whether they are already amateurs and come to see their favorite brewery, or neophytes who wish to discover other types of beer

", explains Vincent Dawson, vice- President of the association.

Because a beer is not just a blonde, a white or an amber beer.

Among the alcoholic drinks to be tasted during the festival, many IPAs (“

Indian Pale Ale

”), more hoppy than traditional beers, but also acidic beers, called “

sour

”, and even wild beers: beers with fermentation spontaneous, aged for several months in barrels.

Since Wednesday and until Friday evening, in several dozen bars in Bordeaux, such as Ambrosia, Lucifer or Gargalou, a "

" (TTO) has been set up: partner establishments make their dispensers available to independent brewers.

8,000 liters of beer sold in 2022

In 2022, 42 breweries had participated in the BLIB.

The organizers estimate that around 8,000 liters of beer were sold during this last edition.

Thirty places are partners of the festival this time, testifying to the magnitude of this event, created in 2015 by a wine merchant wishing to promote craft beer and its actors in the Bordeaux environment.

The first editions brought together mainly local breweries, but today they come from all over the world.

After the Quebec brewery Pit Caribou last year, Belgium, Estonia and Poland are represented this time, alongside many Basque beers.

The best time to taste them will be during the grand finale, this Saturday, when the 60 breweries, cider houses and producers of non-alcoholic drinks will gather inside Hangar 14. Several events are planned from noon: pétanque tournament, foosball and cornhole games

,

fun conferences and live mixing.

A concert will take place from 6 p.m. then a DJ set from 10 p.m.

The result of the brewing competition will be announced at 8 p.m., as well as the winners of the various tournaments, who will leave with beer boxes.

Admission costs €7 in presale until Saturday and €9 on site.

It entitles you to a free first glass of festival beer.

On site, the tastings will cost between two and three euros per galopin (12.5 centilitres).
