The Three Musketeers
is one of the most famous and popular stories, and has had several film adaptations, both in France and in Hollywood.
The older ones will remember the one starring
Gene Kelly
, as D'Artagnan, and Lana Turner as Lady de Winter, in the golden age of Hollywood.
They passed it often on

Well, this one that premieres today does not lack a cast, and it was shot in France, with an equally luxurious cast, but, based on the 1844 novel by Alexandre Dumas, The Three Musketeers: D'Artagnan ends differently, because
obviously
the They have been divided into two parts (spoiler alert: this film concludes when Constance -Lyna Khoudri- is kidnapped), and the second, already filmed and also to be released this year, will be titled The Three
Musketeers: Milady
.
The base is practically the same, with the odd change without major consequences.
It's like Constance, with whom the protagonist falls in love, is not married to the landlord to whom she rented her room when she arrived from Paris, but she is the one who rents the place to him, nor does D'Artagnan have a servant here.

In other words, the young 18-year-old Gascon (François Civil) arrives in Paris in 1625, after having a run-in on the road -which is where director Martin Bourboulon starts the film-.
All for one, and one...
And yes, he wants to join the Company of Musketeers of King Louis XIII (
Louis Garrel
).
And he will also accumulate duels as he meets the three musketeers Athos (Vincent Cassel), Porthos (Pio Marmaï) and Aramis (Romain Duris) and when the three arrive, and he is ready to fight with them, the cardinal's men Richelieu (Eric Ruf) try to arrest them because dueling is prohibited.
King Louis XIII (Louis Garrel), the musketeers and D'Artagnan, the young François Civil.
The rest is known history: the newcomer, an infallible swordsman, will fight alongside those who spend their time saying
One for all and all for one
, and they will be left lying to the guards of those who plot a conspiracy against the King.
There is also the story of the queen's infidelity with the English Duke of Buckingham, diamond necklace included.
There are directors who focused more on the choreography of hand-to-hand fights (and even with guns), others who adapted the matter for the comedy side.
Bourboulon chooses action, plain, with swords, guns, some romance, seduction (for something there is
Eva Green
as Milady de Winter) and political conflicts at Court, between those who want to take advantage of the king and lead him to a war with the English Protestants.
Eva Green is a disturbing and mysterious Milady.
For the film to go back on the right path, it is necessary, or at least help, for there to be camaraderie between the musketeers and d'Artagnan, and that is something that can be seen on the screen.
They invented a murder for Athos, which he says he does not know if he committed or not because, well, he is a man of his word but also a man of drink, and just as some other musketeer clarifies that there is nothing written about sexual preferences -or there was not when Dumas published his novel-, all these "updates" do not add or subtract.
