Colombian businessman Alvaro Pulido was arrested on Wednesday April 13 by Venezuelan authorities, we learned from a judicial source.

He is the partner of Alex Saab, a Venezuelan emissary detained in the United States, accused of being a straw man for the President of Venezuela.

US justice offers 10 million dollars for any information allowing the arrest of Pulido for his links with the "

corrupt regime of Maduro

".

He is detained

” for “

investigation

”, specified this judicial source, without giving more details on the arrest.

This comes as President Nicolas Maduro has launched a vast anti-corruption operation which has reached the heights of the state and the mysteries of power.

"Anti-Corruption Crusade"

A total of 58 people have been arrested since March 17.

Among them are senior officials from the state oil company PDVSA and the judiciary.

On Monday, April 10, prosecutor Tarek William Saab announced that, as part of this "

anti-corruption crusade

", 76 arrest warrants had been issued, 18 of which have not yet been executed.

Alvaro Pulido is one of Alex Saab's associates, considered close to Maduro and power broker abroad.

Alex Saab was extradited in October 2021 from Cape Verde to the United States after his plane stopped in the African archipelago in June 2020. Caracas describes this arrest as illegal, Alex Saab having according to the Venezuelan authorities a passport diplomatic.

He is to be tried in Miami.

According to Washington, Alex Saab, Alvaro Pulido and other accomplices notably paid bribes and kickbacks to Venezuelan government officials who helped them obtain contracts for the sale of overpaid foodstuffs in countries such as Mexico, Brazil and Turkey.

These foodstuffs are used by the Local Supply and Production Committees (CLAP), a food aid program intended for the poorest Venezuelans in this country affected by one of the most serious crises in history.
