Sometimes it becomes necessary to get rid of something
very large
or
very heavy
that is taking up space in the home, and doubts arise about what is the correct way to act.
In the City of Buenos Aires, when disposing of
disused electrical appliances
such as refrigerators, washing machines, stoves, hot water tanks, televisions and complete computers, the usual procedure cannot be followed.
It is also not allowed to throw away furniture
such as armchairs, bookcases, chests of drawers and beds
as if they were common garbage ;
or other
bulky objects
such as mattresses, toilets and enclosures.
Huge waste like that, in the event that it cannot be donated or recovered,
should not be left
in the bins on the block (neither the green nor the black ones, neither inside nor supported).
The same goes for
construction debris
and
garden waste
.
What to do then?
For the management of this "bulky waste" the City has a
special
collection
system at home.
The service, in charge of the Urban Hygiene area, is totally
free
and can be requested instantly from the PC or cell phone.
The City receives about 8,200 requests per month, of which 7,000 are for debris removal.

How does the bulky waste collection service of the Buenos Aires government work?
Before
removing the objects to the public road -not after-, the neighbor must make a request for
scheduled collection
.
For this you can
call 147
;
go to the BA Applications website;
use the BA 147
app
or simply open WhatsApp and process it by interacting with
Boti
, the City Government chatbot.
In any case, it will be necessary to indicate
what type of
large object is going to be discarded, briefly describe it, give the address and even upload
photos
.
Once this is done, all that remains
is to leave it on the sidewalk
.
As promised, in the next
48 business hours
a truck with a crane will come to the place to take everything away.
They remove armchairs, among other disused furniture.

Where should the waste be left, waiting for collection?
Although it is not mandatory, the Buenos Aires government invites you to
identify
the objects to be removed, sticking a sign or legend that says "
programmed collection
".
To facilitate the task and avoid problems, bulky waste
should not be left
next to trees and flower beds, nor inside containers, nor covering drains or drains.
They must be located somewhere
visible and clear
on the sidewalk.
How much debris and green waste do you remove, and how should it be prepared?
If
rubble
or other dry materials are to be removed, the requirement is to leave them
inside bags
and they clarify that they remove
up to 15
of those packages, with a maximum weight of
500 kilos
.
In addition, they warn that the service is only valid for
small works
and home remodeling: "It does not include construction works, which must solve the removal of debris by hiring a private service" (a licensed dump company).
Likewise, in the case of
green waste
such as logs, branches, weeds and plants, the free service is limited to gardening tasks in private patios and gardens.
The indication is to throw them
in bags
or well tied
bales
.
With the free service you can dispose of up to 15 bags of debris weighing up to 500 kilos in total.
