The Carnival will not take place this year in the City of the Dukes.
The decision fell Thursday at the end of the day.

In connection with the current national context and in order to guarantee an event in satisfactory security conditions, the City of Nantes has decided to postpone the 2023 edition of the Carnival of Nantes until next year", communicated the municipality
.
Instead of these parades, a big parade will be organized in the streets on Sunday May 7th.
“We will find the Carnival next year in its usual format but in the meantime we will be able to experience a
beautiful moment of reunion, celebration and sharing”
, commented the mayor of the city, Johanna Rolland.

We try as far as possible to be able to give a carnival event because the disappointment is very great on the side of the public and the carnival-goers who work all year round on their floats

Ludivine Follut, in charge of administration and management within the NEMO association, organizer of the Carnival registered in the French intangible cultural heritage.

The event had already been canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid-19.
Initially, the 2023 edition should have taken place on April 2, 8 and 15 around the theme “
Nantes, its history and its imagination
”.
New tanks have of course been created for the occasion, but the curious will have to be patient to discover them.
They will be released in 2024.
In the meantime, for the parade on May 7, which does not include any particular theme, "
we focus on big heads
", continues Ludivine Follut, with the restoration of old ones.
Usually, there are “

Allegorical floats from previous years will also circulate, as well as a dozen music groups and revelers.

We are still expecting people but we see that the public is disappointed.
We have a lot of messages of support.
“An exhibition is also presented at the moment Place Royale, in the center of Nantes: displays make discover the history and the carnivalesque know-how through archives.
In 2023, old big heads will make their comeback.
