Vitrified parquet

Vitrified parquet is a floor covering that has been treated with a varnish to protect it from scratches and stains and to make it shine.

However, if it gets scratched, you can follow these steps:

- Clean the parquet with a soft cloth and a special cleaning product for sealed parquet.

- Use a parquet touch-up pencil to fill in the scratches.

These crayons are available in a variety of colors to match your hardwood floor.

- Clean the area again with the cleaning product for vitrified floors.

- If the mark is light, use nail polish remover or 90°C alcohol on a cotton swab to clean it.

Olive oil is also effective for superficial marks.

- On the other hand, if the scratch is deep, fill it with wood filler, let it dry then lightly sand it with fine sandpaper.

Then apply a sealer.

Do not hesitate after your touch-up to pass your usual maintenance wax on your vitrified parquet.

Laminate flooring

Laminate flooring is an economical flooring that looks like wood, but is actually made in layers, from compressed wood fibres.

Although it is more resistant than solid parquet, it can still be scratched.

To remove scratches from laminate flooring:

- Clean the parquet with a soft cloth and a cleaning product specially designed for laminate parquet.

- Apply with a brush some wood varnish on the scratches and let dry.

- Spray a thin coat of laminate floor spray on the treated area to protect the floor.

- Use a product specially designed to polish metals.

Put some on a cloth and apply to the floor with circular movements.

Although the parquet is laminated wood and not metal, it works.

Solid parquet

Solid wood parquet is a hardwood flooring that brings a touch of elegance to any room.

It is an older parquet, sensitive to scratches and impacts.

To remove scratches on solid parquet, you can:

- Clean the parquet with a soft cloth and a cleaning product specially designed for solid parquet.

- If the scratches are light, use wax tinted to the color of your parquet after having dusted it or walnut stain.

- Use a mixture of linseed oil and pumice powder to fill in the scratches.

Mix the two ingredients to get a thick paste and apply it on the scratches.

- Use a steel wool buffing pad to buff the area around the scratch.

This will help blend the paste color with the rest of the flooring.

- Clean the area again with the cleaning product for solid parquet floors.

To note

For deeper scratches, it may be necessary to replace damaged floorboards.

It is therefore quite possible to remove scratches on parquet, whether laminate, solid or vitrified.

By using the right products, you can restore your parquet and enjoy its elegance and shine for many years to come.

It is also recommended to use felt pads on furniture legs to prevent new scratches.

If you are unsure of which technique to use or if the scratches are too severe, do not hesitate to call a professional to avoid further damage to your parquet.
