New rules for parking in the City: what changes and how to avoid fines

2023-04-16T10:55:26.674Z

They go into effect this Monday. They seek to simplify the regulations and generate more spaces on the streets of the neighborhoods furthest from the center.

The objective is to simplify the

parking

rules in a City where it is increasingly difficult to find spaces.

For this reason, from this Monday the law that was voted last year will come into force and, in addition to facilitating, it seeks

 to generate more spaces.

The most important change is that from this Monday three basic rules apply: it will be

allowed to park with both hands in the streets, unless there is a sign indicating that it is not possible;

 in avenues only from 21 to 7;

while in passages, next to bike lanes, and in avenues with Metrobus,

it will always be prohibited.

In some neighborhoods

the indicative signage has already been renewed.

However, it can still happen that there are streets where the signs with a blue background and white letters persist, which were placed to warn that it was possible to park on the left hand side.

How many places add up?

According to official information, there will be

28,000 more parking spaces

in the neighborhoods furthest away from the macrocentro area.

Especially on

streets with low

traffic density.

There are also changes for motorcycles: before they had to park parallel to the curb, and with the new regulations they must do so

from 45° to 90°.

arguments

The conclusions of a survey that was used to make the decision showed that 76% of those surveyed considered that it is

difficult or very difficult to know where to park.

At the same time, pilot tests were carried out in which a new parking regulation signaling scheme

reduced 51% of the infractions committed by motorists

What is the offense that porteños commit the most?

The study showed that 5 out of 10 parking violations in the past year

were for left-hand parking.

Beyond the lack of spaces and the growth of the automotive fleet, added to the fact that in various neighborhoods of Buenos Aires the construction of buildings also did its thing, it becomes clear that the current regulations generate confusion

and doubts

.

new signage

The change will not only be of rules.

The signage renovation

process

began last year and is still underway, so old and new signs coexist.

And many of those still seen will be removed.

It is that from now on

only the exception will be signaled

.

For example, in the

avenues

, in the event that it is possible to park on any of the sidewalks, there will be signs with a blue background and the white letter E indicating that it is allowed.

According to official information, the

28,000 new places

that will be generated will be mainly in the neighborhoods furthest away from the macrocentro area, such as Coghlan, Saavedra, Villa Urquiza, Villa Pueyrredón, Floresta, Monte Castro, Vélez Sársfield, Versalles, Villa Luro, Villa Real, Flores and Chacabuco Park.

fines

Although the regulations have been in force since the beginning of this month, traffic agents

will begin to work infractions only from this Monday.

This is how they arranged it from the Buenos Aires Ministry of Transportation and Public Works.

The fine for bad parking is among the most frequent and costs $10,292.

The fine for bad parking is $10,292.

But it increases if the vehicle is stopped in places reserved for emergency services, public transport stops, vehicle entrances, bicycle paths, exclusive lanes, Metrobus corridors, and the Macro and Microcentro area: it costs $20,584

.

The penalty is also more expensive in spaces reserved for vehicles for people with special needs or ramps for people with reduced mobility.

These cases rises to $30,876.

After

years of claims and complaints

, the parking system began to show concrete modifications last year.

The most important change occurred when the Buenos Aires Government

terminated the contract of the Dakota-STO and BRD-SEC companies

and began to operate the hauling crane service.

The controversial haulage crane companies stopped operating last year and a bidding process is underway.

It is expected that before the end of the year the new concession will be defined, which

will divide the City into three zones.

In addition, there will be 6 haulage beaches.

After the opening of envelopes with the proposals, in February, it was confirmed that five companies

had submitted .

The main criticisms, beyond the derisory fee of $53,000 per month paid by the dealerships, which operated with contracts extended for more than 20 years, had to do with the mistreatment of

cars, speeding

, and with the fact that they even lifted vehicles in designated spaces.

With the new system, the priority is

to remove those cars that obstruct ramps or bus stops

, but not those that occupy metered parking spaces and have expired, another action that the privatized tow trucks repeated.

Since last year, metered parking can be paid for via a mobile phone app.

The metered parking system was also renewed last year through a mobile phone app, Blinkay.

It covers 4,000 places in the central area and this month

the progressive rate was enabled.

Thus, those who leave the car for 60 minutes pay $81. However, the second hour costs them $105.30, the third $136.90, and the fourth and all subsequent hours $178. So, parking for four hours has a cost total of $501.20.
