Future of Georg Gänswein still open
Since the death of Benedict XVI.
On New Year's Eve 2022, the 66-year-old is waiting for Pope Francis to assign him a new task.
Since then, Francis has received Gänswein twice in an official private audience.
At the end of March, a Spanish media report led to speculation about Gänswein's possible transfer to Costa Rica as Vatican ambassador.
Neither the Holy See nor the German clergyman commented on the rumours.
Gänswein became Pope Cardinal Josef Ratzinger's private secretary in 2005 after his appointment.
The 66-year-old continued in this post after the Pope's retirement in 2013 until his death.
