In his words, the president referred to the internal tensions in Israel against the background of the legal revolution, and said that "for the Nazi monster, the positions within our nation have not changed as much as this, for her we were one nation whose sentence was death and destruction." As every year, at the ceremony held at Yad Vashem, the Prime Minister will also speak and six beacons will be lit in memory of the 6 million victims of the Holocaust

The state opening rally commemorating the Day of Remembrance for the Holocaust and Heroism began this evening (Monday) at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem.

The President of the State Yitzhak Herzog spoke at the ceremony, who at the beginning of his speech referred to the controversy in the nation against the background of the legal revolution.

In his words, he appealed to the citizens to leave "these holy days, which begin tonight and end on Independence Day, above all controversy, as always - in partnership in mourning, in remembrance."

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will also speak at the ceremony, and later six beacons will be lit in memory of the 6 million victims of the Holocaust.

"This year is not a normal year. And this Memorial Day is not normal," Herzog said.

"This year the feelings are oppressive, the shoulders are heaving, as if testifying to the weight of the controversy that is weighing on us. I am turning to you - citizens of Israel, with a prayer that we will keep these holy days, which begin tonight and end on Independence Day, above all controversy; and let us all be united, as always - in partnership, In mourning, in memory.

"Let us leave the holy days above all controversy."

"Even when we are in the midst of fierce disputes, about destiny, about destiny, about faith, about values, we must be careful and guard against any image, any comparison - neither to the Holocaust, nor to the Nazis," the president continued.

"In the midst of this holy day, it seems that the obvious must also be said: for the Nazi monster - the attitudes within our people did not change like this. The perceptions, beliefs, lifestyles - all the differences and shades within our people - had no meaning.

"For them we were all one people, scattered and divided among all the nations, whose judgment is one - death and destruction; and also our victory over them, a victory that happens every day - is that of one people. Seventy-five years of Israeli Communism we celebrate these days. Seventy-five years of victory, in which The Jewish and democratic State of Israel, and the upright Israeli society, stand up and declare before the Nazi monster and those who walk in its path, even in this generation: You will not be able to us, because we are sisters and brothers. Yes, brothers who know how to argue and disagree. But never - haters. Never - enemies. We One nation and we will remain one nation - which is captured not only by the painful history, but also by the shared and hopeful destiny and future."
