An internal forum in the party began to gather signatures demanding an urgent meeting of the Likud center to make a decision that the law to change the committee for the selection of judges will be promoted if the negotiations at the president's house fail. On the other hand, several heads of large functional groups published a letter supporting dialogue and "legal reform with a broad consensus"

While negotiations between the coalition and the opposition on the legal revolution continued at the President's House today (Tuesday), in Likud the storms continue and there is also pressure to continue promoting the legislation if the negotiations at the President's House fail.

Dror Forum in Likud began to mobilize members of the center demanding an urgent meeting of the Likud center on legal reform, in order to make a decision on advancing the original law to change the composition of the committee for the selection of judges in a second and third reading unilaterally if no agreements are reached at the president's residence.

"Legal reform needs you!" reads a message sent to members of a center called the Dror Forum, which is identified with MK Ariel Kellner and former Jewish leaders in the Likud - a group previously led by Moshe Feiglin. The forum demands that the Likud center be convened to vote on a proposed resolution along the following lines : "A.

The Likud Center strengthens the hands of the Prime Minister and the Minister of Justice in their efforts to achieve a broad consensus on the legal reform, without giving up the fundamental principle: the people have the right to choose their judges.

B.

If such an agreement is not reached, the center calls on the Likud party and all its representatives to give their hand, and determine in the second and third reading the amendment of the committee for the appointment of judges without fear." Dror Forum claims to have collected signatures

from more than a hundred members of the center. More than 700 are needed to bind the convention , and even if it convenes and makes a decision, it has only a declarative meaning.

The collection of signatures for the Likud center gathering is joining the preparations for a huge demonstration of right-wing organizations, coalition parties and supporters of legal reform in front of the Knesset immediately after Independence Day, under the title "The Million Demonstration", demanding the continued promotion of the legal revolution at the Knesset's summer conference.

The minister of the Ministry of Justice, Dodi Amsalem, said this week in an interview to meet the press that the reform will be completed.

"Within the Likud there are a number of people with whom we could not pass the reform at the moment. It will pass later," he said.

Transportation Minister Miri Regev also said at the beginning of this month in an interview with Likudi magazine that the reform was only "suspended" and the legislation will be renewed after Independence Day.

At the same time, several heads of large functional groups, heads of branches and members of the Likud Center, signed an open public letter in support of talks at the President's residence and reaching a broad consensus on the changes required in the justice system.

"We call to take advantage of this opportunity and enact a sustainable legal reform with broad consensus, coalition and opposition, which will strengthen the State of Israel as a Jewish and democratic state for generations to come," reads the letter, which was signed by, among others, the leaders of the Hillel Forum in Likud, the Liberals in Likud, the New Likudniks, the Democratic Group and "the Likudniks "The Free" - which includes branch heads and veteran central members of the party.

"As heads of groups, branches and cities that represent a significant political force in our movement, we believe that we have a primary national responsibility to use it to lead to a process of broad consensus and domestic peace among the people of Israel, while maintaining the values of our movement."

Later in the letter, the Likud activists specify some criteria they demand in the agreed upon outline, a sort of threshold condition for the agreements that will be reached, if reached, at the President's residence.

"Any agreement regarding a reform with constitutional characteristics should be accepted by broad consensus and enacted in such a way that it will be very difficult for future governments to cancel or change it to meet occasional political needs," it said.

"There is no first-class citizen and there is no second-class citizen. We must not envision a situation in which any government will change the reform, cancel or renew it, and here we have turned holy into profane."

Later, they put the "test of tension between the authorities": "There is no possible situation in which a judicial, legislative or executive authority holds superior power over another authority and certainly not with unlimited power."

The signatories of the "Gavizon Test" also point out - "It is impossible for a worthy candidate not to be admitted to the seat of justice due to opposition from the judges of the Supreme Court to their views. There will be no representatives to the attorney's office."

And finally, "the test of the infiltrators law - it is not possible for a law that has a broad consensus regarding its necessity in the public and among its representatives to be invalidated by the judges of the Supreme Court without the legislator having the ability to overcome it."

At the end of the letter, the signatories state that "the entire nation of Israel knows that any party that favors and promotes an outline that does not meet these tests is not interested in bringing about reconciliation in the nation but rather inciting one against his brother and bringing about fratricidal war and the destruction of a third house."
