The investigating judge in charge of the Claude Jean-Pierre case, a sexagenarian who died after alleged violence by police in Guadeloupe in December 2020, announced on Tuesday April 18 his "intention to carry out new acts of instruction"

The announcement comes as the prosecution had requested in early February a dismissal in this case, causing a stir in Guadeloupe.
At the end of 2020, Claude Jean-Pierre, 67, had been checked by two gendarmes for "
hesitant driving
", the prosecution had indicated a few weeks later.
The man, “
alcoholic
”, had left the vehicle “
resisting
” and had found himself “
on the ground, inert
”, according to the same source.
He died a few days later at the Guadeloupe University Hospital.
A judicial investigation had been opened against X for manslaughter on December 10, 2020. On February 5, the Basse-Terre prosecutor had requested a dismissal in this case.
These requisitions aroused emotion in Guadeloupe, where images filmed by a camera in the city of Deshaies were relayed by the media.
