On video: the opening ceremony of the Remembrance Day events for the martyrs of Israel's systems and the victims of hostilities (Walla system!)
At a meeting with the Public Council for the Commemoration of the Soldier and representatives of the bereaved families, Defense Minister Yoav Galant said today (Tuesday) that he "believes that elected officials should be present at the military cemeteries" on the day of remembrance for Israel's martyrs.
But he called on the members of the Knesset "not to express any message that is not state and Zionist, for the benefit of political gain".
Gallant explained that "the demand to remove the elected officials from the cemeteries is like a demand to fold the Israeli flag. We as a society must not lose one of the main social assets we have, which is a bridge of Ehadot, the IDF and the security organizations in general and the bereaved family in particular." A political expression of our holy of holies, the military cemeteries.
This applies to all participants, including elected officials," he said.

Yesterday, the kibbutz movement canceled Galant's invitation to the memorial service for the fallen of the movement that will take place on Thursday.
Gallant was invited to speak at the ceremony, which will be held at the Kibbutz Movement Martyrs' Memorial, but several bereaved families requested that no representative from the government be present.
Along with Gallant, the invitation of Knesset member Alon Shuster (the state camp) was also canceled.
Claiming that the families requested that no politicians be present at the ceremony at all.
