A police officer's body camera video this week revealed details about the dramatic accident involving actor Jeremy Renner in January, who was struck by a snowplow and ended up with 30 broken bones, a punctured liver and a collapsed lung.

The images, made public by a public records request from local Reno station NBC News, show the response of emergency responders, who managed to save his life on New Year's Day.

Renner had been towing his nephew's vehicle on a snow-filled private road near his Reno home when the accident occurred, the Washoe County Sheriff's Office explained at the time in a report released in January.

Renner's nephew, Alex Fries, appears in the video telling police how his uncle rushed to stop a snowplow heading towards him down a hill.

"It started to come towards me, with all its strength," he recounts, "that's when he tried to pounce on [the machine]" but "he slipped because [on] these roads it's impossible to stay on them.

He tried to jump [over the snowplow] and ran into it."

The audio of a call to the 911 emergency telephone number also hinted at the seriousness of the accident.

"Are there visible injuries?" asks the operator.

"Yes, my God, yes," the person on the phone replies.

“He says his ribs hurt.

The right side of him, the right chest and upper torso of him.

His ribs appear to be crushed.

He also has a head injury," he details.

Renner waited 20 minutes for emergency crews to arrive at the crash site due to road conditions from heavy snowfall near Lake Tahoe.

Renner has appreciated the speed of his nephew and the performance of the lifeguards.

"If I had been there alone it would have been a horrible way to die. Surely that would have been the case, surely," he said in an interview on ABC, "but I wasn't alone. I was with my nephew. Sweet Alex. And the rest came of the cavalry".

The actor spent weeks admitted to the Renown Regional Medical Center hospital in Reno and in March he shared a video in which he was seen walking on a treadmill.

Last week he stepped out on a red carpet for the premiere of his Disney+ docuseries Rennervations
