Le Figaro Bordeaux

Urban rodeos, dangerous or even deadly speed shows, by car or motorbike, have been talked about a lot in recent days in Bordeaux.

During a wild car race on April 14 in the Lac district, north of the city, six people were injured among the many spectators "gathered

to watch an unauthorized 'run' on the public highway

".

Two days later, a race of the same ilk, but on a motorcycle, took place in the heart of the Aubiers district in Bordeaux and gave rise to an arrest.

The Gironde prefecture recalled on Tuesday the measures put in place for several months to stem this phenomenon.

A few days after the tragedy of April 14, the prefect of Gironde, Étienne Guyot, has just announced "

the strengthening of security checks by the police and gendarmerie to fight with the greatest firmness against rodeos and motorized runs which disturb public order and endanger the safety of persons

”.

The prefecture also specifies that, over the last eight months, the police services have carried out 859 anti-rodeo operations in the Bordeaux metropolis “

and more particularly in the municipality of Bordeaux

”.

As part of these "

punching" actions

», 8263 people were checked, 1306 verbalized and 57 individuals placed in police custody.

In all, three vehicles and 20 motorized two-wheelers were seized.

Certain “runs” permanently eradicated

The prefecture has also set up “

operational partnership groups

” (GPO), bringing together all the stakeholders (local authorities, donors and companies).

They “

made it possible to carry out preventive actions and carry out sustainable urban development to fight against rodeos and runs (rumble strips, installation of barriers in front of the Bordeaux Lac shopping center, etc.)”

.

Three GPOs were carried out in Bordeaux in 2022, in several sectors.

"

The runs that affected the northern sector of the city of Bordeaux (Le Lac - Les Aubiers) have been definitively eradicated by obtaining, within the framework of the GPO, on the one hand, permanent improvements to the long straight line along the Parc des Expositions , on the other hand, a sanctuarization of the large parking plates of the ZAC of Bordeaux-Lac, made inaccessible to individuals

, ”explains the prefecture.

The fight against urban rodeos is a priority

Etienne Guyot, prefect of the Gironde

Planned police operations took place on other sites in the city, “

not lending themselves to the same logic of infrastructure development

”: avenue Dassault in Mérignac and the quays of the port area of Bassens.

These operations made it possible to seize vehicles and proceed to verbalizations.

“The fight against urban rodeos is a stated priority, both in the context of the implementation of the daily security police since 2018 and in the context of the zero crime plan implemented in the run-up to the World Cup

. rugby 2023

and the

Olympic Games 2024

", recalls the prefect of Gironde, who "

instructed the police and gendarmerie services to increase the number of checks in the most exposed sectors and to proceed to the systematic seizure of gear used

”.

He invites “

the population to notify the police or the gendarmerie quickly when they attend a rodeo, by dialing 17

”, or by reporting online.
