“They want to relax”: fans of the wild “run” demand a circuit dedicated to Bordeaux

2023-04-21T15:53:06.162Z

After the wild "run" which left six injured last Friday in Bordeaux, one of the victims wants to create an association to supervise this practice. The prefecture and town halls are cautious, while another "run" is already planned for this weekend.

Le Figaro Bordeaux

Supervise this risky practice, to prevent the accident of last week from happening again.

This is what some followers of the "

run

" in the Bordeaux area would like.

This illegal and dangerous car or motorcycle race regularly attracts a large audience in the metropolis, in rather outlying neighborhoods.

After the drama of April 14, the prefecture announced a strengthening of controls.

However, a new “

run

” is already planned for this weekend, near the Conforama in Mérignac.

The father of one of the victims of the accident, Manuel Bédouret, was invited for a meeting at the Gironde prefecture on Thursday.

"

They were listening

", says this father, but the state services would have explained to him "

that they can not do anything

".

I find it hard to believe it

”, he testifies, while hoping for a framework for this practice, which for some followers like his son, is a “

passion

”.

"

They want to relax

," said Manuel Bédouret.

A secure site would therefore “

avoid tragedies

”.

For this one to see the light of day, his son intends to create an association.

But, in Bordeaux and in the metropolis, the question is still debated.

Local authorities and the prefecture pass the buck.

The city of Bordeaux is cautious on this file, although the mayor of the district concerned by the accident of April 14, Vincent Maurin, has put forward the hypothesis of a place dedicated to this practice in the area.

"

This is an avenue to explore

", specifies the city of Bordeaux, recalling that this request had not been formulated until now and that it would rather be up to the metropolis to act, because the

urban "

runs

" do not concern not just Bordeaux.

The metropolis explains that it is not its competence, but that of the town halls concerned and the prefecture.

The latter closes the loop by considering that "

it is rather the town hall and the metropolis that should be questioned

on the creation of a possible lead, not wishing to speak further on the subject.

A reopening of the Mérignac circuit?

In the agglomeration, a place existed however until March 2022: the car circuit of Mérignac.

Its occupants were evicted last year following a court decision, because the land had been occupied for several years without an agreement or lease contract with the city.

Today, “ run

” aficionados

and some elected officials are campaigning for its reopening.

This is the case of the Renaissance MP for Gironde, Éric Poulliat, who wants this place to host one of the future “

road risk prevention centers

” that he would like to set up in several regions.

"

This would provide access to security for those who want to practice this hobby, because today it is practiced in the street and it

“, explains the chosen one.

For him, “

the circuit exists, exploitation is possible

”.

A solution, however, swept away by the municipality.

Alain Anziani, mayor of Mérignac and president of Bordeaux Métropole, is firmly opposed to the reopening of this circuit.

"

The practice of 'wild runs' has always existed - particularly in the Bordeaux-Lac area - including during the period of operation of the Mérignac circuit

", affirms the city councilor, judging that "

wild runs in Bordeaux and the Mérignac car-motorcycle circuit are two separate issues

”.

The city specifies that this site also caused a lot of noise pollution.

On April 17, work began to transform it into a high-traffic area for travellers, in order to bring the metropolis into compliance with the law.

Éric Poulliat, however, believes that this is “

stubbornness

” on the part of the mayor of Mérignac, fearing “

a big missed meeting

” if he does not change his mind.

"

The solution would be to find another place more suitable and away from the urban fabric, but few municipalities are today willing to welcome it

," sighs Alain Anziani.

While waiting to find out if a dedicated site could one day accommodate them, the "

runs

will continue to take place in the metropolis.
