A cliff collapsed yesterday (Thursday) on a beach near the promenade in the center of Netanya, no injuries were reported in the incident.
After the collapse, free blocks of stone remained at the top of the cliff, as well as large parts of the upper kurkar layer, so that another collapse could occur at any moment, and therefore the area is fenced off and closed to civilian traffic.
The collapsed cliff, whose weight is estimated at hundreds of tons, is part of the chain of dangerous cliffs in Israel.
The cliff area is south of the breakwaters being built these days, and in this section a total of six additional breakwaters are expected to be built.

Ilan Lavi, CEO of the Governmental Society for the Protection of the Cliffs of the Mediterranean Coast, said that the collapse of the cliff is a reminder of the importance of caution against the dangers of the cliff and the continued investment required in the challenge of protecting Israel's cliffs. Lavi also noted that in the northern areas where the breakwaters in Netanya have already been erected and the beach expanded - The collapse of the cliff was stopped.
