STRASBOURG - Green light from the Eurochamber, with four different votes, to the negotiating mandate on the texts approved by the EP's Libe commission for the

new migration and asylum pact

.

The package passed with the

favorable vote of the Socialists, Populars, Renew and Greens

.

The entire delegation of the Italian government

is also in favor of the negotiating mandate

: Lega and Fratelli d'Italia have in fact made it known that they do not support the objections presented by Id and Ecr, their groups belonging to the Eurochamber.

"We did our part. With today's vote, the European Parliament has a

strong mandate

to start negotiations on the Pact for Migration and Asylum. No member state can face this challenge alone," he tweeted. the president of the European Parliament,

Roberta Metsola

.

"We expect the EU Council to keep its promises in time to

reach an agreement within the next year

. We can do it".

The text on the regulation of migration crisis situations by the Spanish socialist, Juan Fernando López Aguilar, which contains the amendment on forced relocations in the event of emergency flows of migrants, passed with 419 votes in favour, 129 against and 30 abstentions.

Instead, the text on the management of migration and asylum was approved with 413 votes in favour, 142 against and 20 abstentions, whose rapporteur was the Swedish popular Tomas Tobe.

The two texts on arrival screening measures presented by the German Social Democrat Birgit Sippel were also approved: the first with 419 votes in favor, 126 against and 30 abstentions and the other with 431 votes in favor, 121 against and 1 25 abstentions.

The Eurochamber then also gave the green light to the text by the rapporteur of the German Greens Damian Boeselager, on long-term resident migrants in the EU, approved with 391 votes in favour, 140 against and 25 abstentions, which however is not part of the Migration package and asylum and which in fact passed without the favorable vote of the Northern League delegation and of the Brothers of Italy.

"Parliament's vote in view of the negotiations with the Council represents a

positive development

: the mandates are in fact more in line with the sensitivities of the countries of first entry than the texts now on the table of the Council".

This was announced by a

diplomatic source from the Med 5 group

.

"The hope is that Parliament's positions will lead the Council to approach a more balanced compromise to allow the achievement of an inter-institutional agreement by the end of the legislature".

Progress is recorded in particular on "various aspects" of the

"solidarity and relocation"

chapter , prefiguring a "more demanding" mechanism for the contributing Member States, as well as on the "

"They are seen as flexible, recognizing the need for a sustainable system for first entry countries", the source specifies.

The choices made on screening are also good.

"Now they make the legal presumption of non-entry

optional

, the obligatory nature of which would instead imply the need to detain migrants at the border while controls are being carried out", notes the source.

Among the legislative texts subject to vote in the plenary were, among others, the

asylum and migration management regulation

(RAMM, essentially Dublin reform and solidarity mechanisms, ed) and precisely the regulation on screening.

Negotiations with the Council will be able to begin on the basis of the mandates approved and the update of the mandate on the Asylum Procedures Regulation (APR), already approved at the end of March.
