The Deutschlandticket is coming: Many NRW cities want to make the 49-euro ticket even cheaper for their employees.

However, Düsseldorf does not follow suit.

Düsseldorf – Since April 3, 2023, numerous rail passengers have been able to pre-order the 49-euro ticket, and the long-awaited Germany ticket will be valid from May 1.

Although not quite as cheap as the previous 9-euro ticket 2022, it can be canceled just as monthly.

But here, too, there are some benefits for passengers: In addition to a discount for students, many municipalities in North Rhine-Westphalia offer their employees a discount - and thus relieve many commuters.

This was announced by NRW Transport Minister Oliver Krischer as Chairman of the Transport Ministers' Conference of the federal states.

But not everyone wants to offer this grant.

The city of Düsseldorf is not going along with it.

But why?

"There is a lack of appropriate regulations, both for a practical design for the employees and a legal basis for the civil servants," explains a city spokesman for 24RHEIN.

According to the city, around 6,100 employees currently subscribe to a job ticket that has been offered for many years.

According to the city, so that the 49-euro ticket can be offered at a reduced price, there needs to be an agreement between the social partners and a legislative initiative at state level.

It is still unclear whether there will be such an employer subsidy for the Deutschlandticket in the future.
