Munich/Wiesbaden – Instead of spring-like temperatures and sunshine, April has so far shown its cold side.
There has been a lot of rain, wind and even snow in the past few days.
Graduate meteorologist Dominik Jung warns that April can be too cold because the temperatures are unusually low.
The weekend could offer a ray of hope.
Because then temperatures of over 20 degrees are possible - such as in Italy on Lake Garda or in Sicily.
Spring weather in Germany and Italy - heat in Spain and Portugal
The situation in southern Europe is different.
In Spain and Portugal there are temperatures of over 30 degrees, next week even 40 degrees are possible in southern Spain.
Such weather is not usually expected until July or August.
The jet stream is to blame for the heat wave and the associated drought.
“The jet stream is a band of strong winds around the northern hemisphere.

The jet stream is also responsible for the cold air in our country.
The jet stream is positioned in such a way that it releases cold air masses to the north-west.
It curves from south to north, allowing heat from Africa to reach Spain and Portugal, Jung explains.
“The two air masses only mix for a short time.
This is the case, for example, today and tomorrow.
It will also be warm and partly sunny in Germany," added the weather expert.
Fall in weather after the spring weekend: April weather and low temperatures
Temperatures will rise to 15 to 20 degrees on Friday.
It stays dry, plus lots of sunshine.
However, thunderstorms with heavy rain are possible in the west in the afternoon.
The German Weather Service (DWD) expected stormy gusts in the mountains, and gusts of wind can even occur on the Brocken.
Saturday will be friendlier again and the temperatures will rise to 18 to 24 degrees.
There will also be a mix of sun and clouds, but showers and thunderstorms can move in again from the west.
Classic April weather can already occur throughout Germany on Sunday.
In the next week we can expect the sudden change in weather, as Jung explained.

Not only Spain and Portugal are affected by the heat.
The lack of rain is also becoming an increasing problem in France.
