Bad luck for Gabriele Bottenberg: Ironically, with "Bares for Rares" it turns out that the pensioner was ice-cold ripped off when she supposedly bought an antique years ago.

Cologne – At “Bares für Rares” (Monday to Friday, 3:05 p.m. on ZDF) treasures that were thought to be lost regularly come under the hammer, but here and there supposed treasures turn out to be worthless junk – a big annoyance, especially for sellers who had hoped to improve their petty cash a little.

Counterfeiting only flies up at "Bares for Rares": the seller once paid 2,000 DM

Such a fate recently befell Gabriele Bottenberg (75): around 30 years ago, the pensioner bought a pretty lamp in a fairytale design – for a steep price!

The 75-year-old once paid a total of 2,000 DM for the good piece in a specialty store in northern Germany.

Thanks to "Bares for Rares" the lamp should find a new owner.

But it turned out very differently: "Oh, that looks like a fairy tale," Horst Lichter (61) was amazed at first, without suspecting that Gabriele Bottenberg's "Bares for Rares" visit would not be fairytale at all.

The good mood finally had to be art expert Dr.

Bianca Bering (46), after examining the lamp in detail: the material was "inferior", the glass was sprayed afterwards and the signature of the French sculptor Charles Ruchot (1871-1954) was simply a forgery.

What was the most expensive sale on Cash for Rares?

The record is still held by a diamond-encrusted reliquary cross weighing around 40 carats (around 8 grams).

Susanne Steiger secured the piece for 42,000 euros.

"Heide, that's a world sensation," summed up Horst Lichter after Dr.

Heide Rezepa-Zabel, who estimated a price of 60,000 to 80,000 euros.

Saleswoman at "Bares for Rares" sent home: "Now I'm really sad"

The alleged age of the Art Nouveau lamp was "pretended" according to the competent expert - a procedure which is also known "in dealer language" as "Antique 2000".

The shock was correspondingly deep for Gabriele Bottenberg.

"It's just a fake.

The signature is only in it because it was cast in an impression of the original," concludes Dr.

Bianca Bering, who even broke off a piece at the end because of the poor workmanship of the supposed antique.

Because the "Bares for Rares" professionals are not allowed to deal in fakes, the former teacher had to go.

"You can't sell them here," Horst Lichter told the pensioner with a heavy heart.

She was horrified, after all she had once paid a proud sum for it: "Now I'm really sad.

I didn't expect that!” She had to start her way home without having achieved anything.

Things went much better for another seller recently: Instead of the 150 euros she had hoped for, she got 26 times that at “Bares for Rares”.
