The drought continues to worsen in the Pyrénées-Orientales.
The inhabitants of the village of Corbère no longer have water since Monday, according to a note from the town hall published online.
The municipality has already been in great difficulty since last week since the water table has reached the minimum withdrawal threshold, forcing the Intercommunal Drinking Water Supply Syndicate (SIAEP) to stop drilling and to connect to an agricultural borehole.
However, this water is not drinkable at the moment.
However, the SIAEP supplies four municipalities, including that of Corbère.
Cisterns of non-drinking water being supplied
The situation worsened on Monday since the village no longer has tap water.
"Despite the efforts of SIAP employees, overconsumption downstream of the village does not allow water to reach the upper part of the village
," said the city, which assured that
"tanks"
were
"being positioned and supply"
to several places in the city: the square, the tops of rue de l'aire and rue de la fontaine.
These non-potable water tanks aim to guarantee a minimum supply in order, in particular, to evacuate water from the toilets.
The town hall of Corbère also asked
"people whose water circulates in their homes"
, to think
"of those who do not have it".
A prefectural decree on restrictions on the use of water should be taken by the prefecture of Pyrénées-Orientales on April 30.
