The 37-year-old man was hit by a defensive bullet on Monday evening, shortly before 10:30 p.m., near the Loire-Atlantique prefecture. The Nantes prosecutor's office has opened an investigation to determine whether the shooting was carried out under regular conditions.

Le Figaro Nantes

Monday evening, a "casserolade" was organized in Nantes, as in many cities in France, by opponents of the pension reform on the occasion of the first anniversary of the re-election of Emmanuel Macron as President of the Republic.

It was on the sidelines of this parade that a man was seriously injured.

Aged 37, he was hit by

"an LBD shot",

confirms Renaud Gaudeul, the public prosecutor of Nantes.

The facts took place

"shortly before 10:30 p.m. at the corner of Pont Morand and the boulevard des 50 hostages"

, he specifies.

This place is located near the Loire-Atlantique prefecture.

Custody lifted

“Immediately transported to the hospital, he underwent a removal of a testicle”

, indicates the prosecutor about the victim.

To shed light on the sequence of events, the Nantes prosecutor's office opened an investigation on Tuesday morning.

It was entrusted to the General Inspectorate of the National Police (IGPN).

This will in particular

"determine if this shooting was carried out under regular conditions"

.

The injured man, who was

"initially placed in police custody on the charge of intentional violence against persons holding public authority"

for acts of

"throwing a projectile"

was

"released pending prosecution investigations”

, according to the magistrate.

“Mutilating” weapons

This LBD shooting with dramatic consequences took place following a few scuffles between the police and demonstrators while the procession was one of the calmest in the City of the Dukes since the beginning of the mobilization against the government plan.

According to

Ouest-France

, the victim was hit after a full beer can was thrown in the direction of the police during the handcuffing of a tipsy individual.

Present alongside the demonstrators on Monday evening, LFI deputy Andy Kerbrat reacted on the social network Twitter.

“As since 2007, the LBDs mutilate the demonstrators in Nantes.

While the demonstration was festive, without any violence, a young man finds himself emasculated today

,” he wrote.

The elected official challenged Gérald Darmanin, the Minister of the Interior, to ask him

"to prohibit these mutilating weapons, symbols of an unacceptable repression"

.

In another publication, the deputy of the second constituency of Loire-Atlantique said

"to condemn"

the use of

"grenades"

in the direction of the

"Nantes procession"

.

In his words,

“repression is still the language of Macronism”

.

A similar case in Rennes

This is not the first time that a demonstrator mobilized against the pension reform has had to have a testicle removed after being hit by an LBD shot.

A similar situation took place in Rennes at the end of March.

The IGPN is also responsible for investigating events that occurred on January 19 in Paris.

During a demonstration, a 26-year-old young man was reportedly beaten in the crotch with a truncheon by a policeman.

Again, the victim had to have a testicle amputated.

In Nantes, the IGPN is also investigating an intervention by the police on March 14.

That day, four students say they were victims of sexual violence during body pat-downs carried out on the return from a filtering dam against the pension reform.
