Munich – The Verdi union has again called for a large-scale warning strike.

On Wednesday (April 26), numerous delays and cancellations are to be expected in parts of local public transport and freight transport on the rails.

According to Verdi, five federal states are affected by the strike:

Schleswig Holstein

Lower Saxony

North Rhine-Westphalia

Bavaria

Baden-Wuerttemberg

Strikes in Germany: These transport companies are affected by the mega warning strike on Wednesday

The warning strike is intended to put pressure on around 40 transport companies with around 5,000 employees.

The railway collective agreement (ETV) applies to them, as they are not covered by the collective agreement for the public service of the federal government and the municipalities, on which there was an agreement at the weekend.

The union demands a wage and salary increase of 550 euros per month for a period of twelve months.

For trainees, the remuneration should increase by 250 euros per month.

In a first round of negotiations on April 17, the employers submitted a lower offer.

These modes of transport and cities are affected by the warning strike on April 26:

  • Transport companies in the district of Plön (Schleswig-Holstein)

  • Regional bus Hanover (Lower Saxony)

  • Transport companies in the port of Cologne (North Rhine-Westphalia)

  • Oberbergische Verkehrsgesellschaft (North Rhine-Westphalia)

  • SWEG Südwestdeutsche Landesverkehr GmbH (Baden-Württemberg)

  • Kahlgrund Transport Company in Aschaffenburg (Bavaria)

The list includes only part of the strikes.

So far, not all regions and transport companies are known.

"Since regional impairments in local public transport are to be expected, Verdi will provide information on site in good time about the specific plans," announced the union on Monday (April 24) in a statement.

Criticism of warning strikes on Wednesday by employers: "Completely exaggerated and ruthless"

"The workers and their families have been hit hard by the recent price increases," said Verdi's chief negotiator, Volker Nuss, about the planned strikes on Wednesday.

"A significant increase is needed to absorb the rising costs." Verdi is also demanding better working conditions in order to counteract the shortage of staff in the companies.

The planned warning strike is meanwhile criticized by the Employers' Association of German Railways.

He described the strikes at the current stage of the negotiations as "completely excessive".

Also in view of the high school graduation exams that are running in many places, the behavior of the union is seen as "completely inconsiderate".
