The ecological municipality will set up a citizens' convention, with the aim of improving its actions in favor of the climate. The opposition denounces a "smoke" and a lack of concrete measures.

Le Figaro Bordeaux

The mayor of Bordeaux, Pierre Hurmic, wants to draw inspiration at the municipal level from the citizens' convention for the climate launched by the Head of State.

This Tuesday will be the launch party for the “

great citizen dialogue

”.

An unprecedented participatory approach over one year, with the theme of the climate emergency, in order to "

reduce Bordeaux's impact on climate change and transform the city more quickly

".

This participatory approach is part of the “

democratic contract

” adopted last year.

The idea of this citizen dialogue is “

to invite Bordeaux residents to explore, each year, a question of the future, with the key, concerted solutions

”.

This system will be divided into three stages: "

effervescence

", to "

share experiences, questions, obstacles, knowledge and know-how

" until September, then the constitution of a citizens' convention, with a panel of inhabitants drawn by lot and reflecting “

the diversity of the Bordeaux population

”, and finally the final stage of “

landing

” in March 2024, with a report and a public restitution.

This year of bubbling should produce change to become a helping and facilitating city renewing its methods of cooperation with local actors.

The objective is to build a sustainable, desirable and carbon-free city

,” explains Pierre Hurmic.

Last December, the elected official already affirmed in our columns his desire to "

promote a realistic, pragmatic, peaceful municipal ecology and in phase with the climatic imperatives

", considering that the mayors are in the front line facing this issue and that "

the municipal level is very relevant to meet the climate challenge

”.

The great citizen dialogue began before tonight's inauguration.

In February, the "

transition generation parliament

" brought together around forty Bordeaux residents aged 15 to 25, and allowed "

a collective reflection around the climate emergency and the emergence of proposals in order to imagine the world of tomorrow

".

Among them: creating a tax on imported products, food social security, encouraging the circular economy and developing the use of the train.

“Reheated Macron”

On the benches of the municipal council, the approach is however far from convincing everyone.

Nicolas Florian, former mayor of Bordeaux (Les Républicains) and leader of the opposition group Bordeaux Ensemble, believes that “

every year, Pierre Hurmic releases something of the same ilk

”.

A reference to the "

mobile parliament

", set up last year in Bordeaux.

"

It's good, surely, to alert, but everything related to global warming, people have understood and want action

", judges the elected official.

For Nicolas Florian, this great citizen dialogue, "

it's still a bit of smoke

."

The concepts put forward would even be similar to "

warmed up Macron

".

Last month, the Bordeaux Ensemble group had also criticized the municipal team of Pierre Hurmic for talking a lot about participatory democracy, but for doing little.

Fabien Robert, elected MoDem within the opposition group, then estimated that “

under cover of a climate emergency, decisions which strongly impact our daily life are taken after informing the inhabitants, at best, but without real prior consultation”

.

Critics "

which do not lack salt

", swept Pierre Hurmic, recalling that these elected opposition members all boycotted the last municipal council.

A sign according to the city councilor of "

little regard they make of the mandate entrusted by the people of Bordeaux

".

The inhabitants of the commune themselves will soon make their voices heard at the Rohan Palace.

At the beginning of January, the ecologist announced during his wishes to the press the creation of a “

citizen questioning

” device: in a few months, petitions collecting at least 4,000 signatures from inhabitants will be necessarily debated in municipal council. .
