A lawyer from the state of New York admitted yesterday (Tuesday) to international money laundering for the Russian-Israeli oligarch Viktor Vekselberg, a close associate of President Putin who was imposed American sanctions following Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Vekselberg, 66 years old, son of a Jewish father and holder of Israeli citizenship, is considered the third richest man in Russia.
His fortune was estimated at about 15 billion dollars.
He is known as someone who donated to various organizations and invested in Israeli companies including the cyber company "The Fifth Dimension" whose chairman was Benny Gantz.
According to court documents, American lawyer Robert Wise of Pelham, New York, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to commit international money laundering. Attorney Wiese agreed to have the state forfeit more than $3.7 million seized from him. Now, he is left to pay a balance of $210,441. His sentencing is set for November.

In March last year, a special unit of the US Treasury seized Vekselberg's yacht and private plane.
This, after the United States ordered the seizure of all of Vekselberg's assets.
FBI agents found the luxury ship, known as "Tango" and worth about 90 million dollars, on the beaches of Palma de Mallorca in Spain, and took it over.
According to the US Department of Justice, from 2008 to 2017, Vekselberg, through a series of shell companies, owned six real estate properties at prestigious addresses in the United States. Among the properties were two apartments on Park Avenue in New York, a mansion in Southampton, New York, two apartments and a penthouse in Fisher Island in Florida The value of the properties was about $75 million.
