A spokesman for the Ukrainian Armed Forces assured this - Photo AFP

"The eastern front resists, prepares the ground for the counteroffensive and after the end of the Bakhmut battle it will have destroyed the entire company of Wagner mercenaries," stressed the spokesman for the eastern group of the Ukrainian armed forces, Serhiy Cherevaty.

In an interview with ANSA, he is confident and assures that the Russians are now "on the defensive" in the East and reiterates that the Ukrainians will not abandon the symbolic city of Kiev's resistance in Donetsk, the scene of the fiercest confrontation since the beginning of war.

"As President (Volodimir) Zelensky has already clarified, we will defend Bakhmut to the end. The enemy is concentrating his troops in that direction and resisting in Bakhmut benefits us because the Russians lose a large number of soldiers every day: 175 of them were killed and 213 wounded yesterday in the city alone. We are constantly declining its combat capacity and I can finally say that we will totally destroy the Wagner group at the end of the operation," Cherevaty said.

Foto: SERGEY BOBOK / AFP

Foto: REUTERS/Maxim Shemetov

Brands.

Foto: REUTERS/Maxim Shemetov

One worker died while 10 other people were injured.

Vladimir Putin's army used S-300 anti-aircraft missiles against Kupiansk in the Kharkiv region, destroying the local history museum in the city center.

Three people were hospitalized, seven suffered minor injuries and two others were believed to remain under the rubble, Kharkiv regional governor Oleh Syniehubov said.
