This herbaceous perennial of European origin from the fabaceae family is reputed to be a green manure when it grows in neutral, poor or calcareous soil and in the sun.
When its purple-pink flowers bloom in the form of clusters during the summer season, bees and other insects come to land there delicately to feed.
Hardy and known for its rapid growth which can peak up to 80 centimeters, the sainfoin loosens the soil.
