A public holiday in Italy was to blame.
Bavaria – Those who were heading towards Tyrol on Wednesday morning needed a great deal of patience.
On the autobahns towards Italy, coming from Bavaria, there was a huge backlog in the morning hours.
The A8 and the A93 were affected.
Truck drivers in particular had to be patient because of the increased volume of traffic.

70 kilometers of traffic jams from Bavaria to Italy – the holiday was to blame
At the top, it was actually backed up over a total length of almost 70 kilometers, as a police spokesman confirmed to the
German Press Agency
.
But why did the huge traffic jam come about in the first place?
On Tuesday (April 25) Italy celebrated the holiday "Festa della liberazione" - the day of the liberation of Italy.
A truck driving ban was therefore in force in Tyrol.
Therefore there was a huge backlog, which was initially let through by the authorities bit by bit on Wednesday morning.
That was initially only about 150 vehicles per hour.
The limit was then lifted from 10 a.m.

Nevertheless, it took a few hours for the traffic situation to calm down.
At noon there was still a 20-kilometer traffic jam on the A8 towards Salzburg.
The A93 was and continues to be overcrowded.
The police expect that the situation will only relax in the late afternoon - if there are no accidents in between.
