While Elisabeth Borne announced a revaluation of the minimum wage, other changes are expected this month.

Minimum wage, tax return, family and social benefits...

Le Figaro

takes stock of the new developments that will take place in May 2023.

The Smic will increase by just over 2%

Announced by Elisabeth Borne in April, the minimum wage will be increased "

by just over 2%

" due to inflation which reached 5.7%.

The increase will therefore normally be increased to 2.19%, i.e. a revaluation of 30 euros.

The net Smic will reach 1383 euros per month for a full-time job of 35 hours.

The Prime Minister encouraged companies to "

renegotiate salary scales

" to defend the purchasing power of employees.

Over one year, the Smic will have been revalued by 6% taking into account the increase at the beginning of May.

Wood heating: last month to apply for exceptional assistance

If you heat with wood, you only have until May 31 to apply for the “wood energy” check.

Initially scheduled until April 30, this aid ranging from 50 to 200 euros was recently extended.

To make the request, you must go to the dedicated portal, with your tax number and a wood purchase invoice in your name, less than 18 months old.

Only households with a reference tax income per consumption unit of less than 27,500 euros, and who have not benefited from the fuel oil check can benefit from it.

Don't forget to file your taxes

For residents of departments numbered 1 to 19, the tax declaration must be made before Thursday, May 25 at 11:59 p.m.

For those numbered from 20 to 54, the date is brought to June 1, then to June 8 for those between 55 and 974/976.

To declare your taxes, you must go to the impots.gouv.fr platform, then click on the “

declare my income

” button.

The new amounts of family and social benefits allocated from May

Family and social benefits such as the RSA, the activity bonus or family allowances have been increased to 5.6%.

since April 2022. This revaluation occurs each year on April 1, and is effective from May.

This level of revaluation depends on the annual change in prices, excluding tobacco, and also on the exceptional 4% revaluation of benefits and social minima that took place in July 2022.

Tobacco price increase

Some packs of cigarettes will see their prices increase from May 1.

This is particularly the case of the Lucky Strike which increases by 40 cents and therefore goes to 11 euros.

Same thing for Dunhill Red Select or Rothmans Blue.

Other brands are affected by a price increase such as the Austin, the Elixyr red or the pack of 20 Vogue L'Optimum Gold cigarettes.

The average price of a pack of cigarettes should reach 11 euros in January 2024.
