Arcachon basin: Petit-Nice beach reopens nine months after the fires

Three prefectural decrees, published this Friday, lift some of the restrictions surrounding the Teste-de-Buch forest, bereaved by the fires this summer.

The Girondins had not trodden its fine sand since the fires which mourned the department last summer.

In just one night, they will be able to walk again on the Petit-Nice beach.

As flower season begins and spring approaches, the prefecture, by three decrees published this Friday, eases the restrictions surrounding the Teste-de-Buch forest.

From 4 p.m. today, cyclists in the Arcachon basin will be able to ride the track that runs along the coast and the D218 from the Dune du Pilât roundabout to Biscarosse.

Until the end of June, particular vigilance will nevertheless be necessary on a short stretch of road, 500 meters, which will have to be carried out on the RD 218 due to the work of the National Forestry Office.

And motorists notice: “

Speed ​​controls will be present, in particular on this last zone

”, limited to 50 km / h because it is a section impacted by fires.

A coastline on which prevention definitely remains the priority.

In the event of strong swells coupled with violent currents (coefficient greater than 75), Petit-Nice beach will be inaccessible to the public within an interval of 2 hours before high tide and two hours after, until June 30 .

Runway 214, where only volunteer patrols who monitor the used forest are allowed, remains closed to traffic, including pedestrians.

The Gironde prefecture recalls that "
