HSV can slowly adjust to the next relegation.

After the defeat in Magdeburg, second place is already four points away.

Magdeburg – Hamburger SV is in danger of missing out on direct promotion to the first division again.

HSV lost 2:3 (1:1) at 1. FC Magdeburg on Saturday and had to accept another setback in the promotion race of the 2nd Bundesliga.

After 1. FC Heidenheim won in Fürth on Friday, the deficit in second place is now four points before the end of the season.

In front of 27,075 spectators in the sold-out Magdeburg stadium, former HSV player Moritz Kwarteng (32nd minute) gave the hosts the lead, Sonny Kittel (42nd) equalized before the break.

Baris Atik (74th) and Tatsuya Ito (86th), another ex-HSVer, caused the favorites to lose.

Hamburg's 2:3 by Ludovit Reis (90+4) came too late.

"We lacked consistency in the last third and when we conceded on the defensive," criticized Hamburg's coach Tim Walter after his team's overall disappointing performance.

"The punch wasn't there.

Today, unfortunately, we are the fools.”

A week after the victory in the city derby against FC St. Pauli, HSV had more of the game in an entertaining game, but always had to watch out for Magdeburg's counterattacks.

In addition, the Hamburgers had no luck with the decisions of the video assistant that day.

Two goals were rightly disallowed for offside, and referee Harm Osmers (Hanover) took back a penalty after viewing the video images.

While the guests missed several good opportunities, Magdeburg showed themselves to be efficient.

Kwarteng's 1-0 was the hosts' first real chance, while Atik's 2-1 had hardly any chances to speak of.

In the end, Magdeburg was just waiting for the guests to make mistakes, who had few ideas in attack and conceded the third goal.

"We became more and more passive and weren't consistent enough overall," criticized Hamburg's unlucky striker Robert Glatzel this time.

"Especially in the second half it wasn't enough.

It hurts today, but we can't bury our heads in the sand."

However, there are many indications that HSV will have to go into relegation again.

Because while Heidenheim and Darmstadt are constantly scoring points, HSV makes far too many mistakes, especially away from home.

Even before the acclaimed derby victory against St. Pauli, Hamburg had lost in Kaiserslautern.

"I expect more from us," said goalkeeper Daniel Heuer Fernandes.

"We conceded goals too easily, we didn't have the ball speed on offense." HSV will continue next Friday against SC Paderborn.

Then it is important for the North Germans to at least secure the relegation place.
