But where do the activists get the money to pay for their actions?

Munich – The “Last Generation” is an association of climate activists in Germany and Austria.

With a large number of demonstrations, the group wants to force governments to take action in the climate crisis.

But how do the climate stickers actually finance themselves?

"Last generation": This is how the climate stickers are financed

While the "last generation" is currently protesting in Germany's capital Berlin, the climate stickers published their financial report for 2022. "More and more people want change.

And more and more people want to work out solutions with which we can meet the climate catastrophe socially,” writes the “Last Generation” on its website about the protests.

In their published financial report, the climate activists reveal how they finance themselves.

In their transparency report for 2022, the “Last Generation” stated that they had generated total income of over 900,000 euros.

More than 890,000 euros came from donations via Paypal and direct transfers as well as collective donations and crowdfunding.

On the other hand, there are expenses of almost 534,000 euros.

After a starting budget of only 15,000 euros and a large income surplus, the climate adhesives generated a profit of over 383,000 euros.

“Last Generation”: More and more costs due to court cases

The “Last Generation” spent more than 254,000 euros on rental costs.

These include function rooms, rental cars, lifting platforms and accommodation.

The climate adhesives spent almost 100,000 euros on material, including the superglue required for gluing.

The organization has more and more expenses for lawyers, court and legal costs.

These were urgently needed this year as well: A climate activist has now been imprisoned for several months after a trial.

The “last generation” had these expenses in 2022:

  • Rental costs:

    254,170 euros

  • Material costs:

    98,167 euros

  • Advertising material costs:

    58,164 euros

  • Transaction fees:

    24,808 euros

  • Travel costs:

    23,116 euros

  • Legal costs:

    17,733 euros

  • Meals:

    16,429 euros

  • IT:

    16,156 euros

  • Further training and resilience:

    11,226 euros

  • Other:

    14,536 euros

This year, the “Last Generation” has already received donations totaling 237,000 euros.

According to their own statements, the climate activists need 100,000 euros a month in order to "continue to take the peaceful civil resistance to the streets."

The supporters thank the "last generation" for their commitment: "Please continue with creative ideas" and "Thank you for the resistance" are just two of the comments from donors.

Even if the intention of the climate activists can be understood by many, the measures of sticking them on the street or on objects are often criticized.

Some of the politicians even called for tougher penalties for climate glue.
