After the cost explosion, there is the next setback in terms of ice rink renovation in Peiting.

The renovation of the roof, which was supposed to start in May, is falling flat this year.

No offer was received for the carpentry work in two tenders.

Peiting – In March, the planners still sounded confident.

"We are ready to build", was the message at the municipal council meeting when the schedule for the forthcoming general renovation of the ice rink was presented in detail.

They wanted to start this year with replacing the leaking roof, in 2024 the ice runway, cooling and ventilation technology should be brought up to scratch and finally in 2025 the renovation of cabins and sanitary facilities as well as the facade should be tackled.

But this schedule, only a month and a half later, is waste again.

Because, in response to two EU-wide tenders, offers were received for plumbing and scaffolding work, but none for the carpentry work, the roof cannot be renovated this year.

"The tender documents were downloaded by various companies, the relevant companies were actively informed of the ongoing tender and also expressed interest," explains Mayor Peter Ostenrieder.

But without result.

There is simply no time to look for a company again, after all the hall has to be available again for ice hockey league operations from September.

High costs make things difficult for the community

It is the next piece of bad news, after the costs had recently increased significantly.

As reported, 8.8 million euros are now estimated for the major project.

If you include the cost increases up to 2025, you have to assume around ten million euros, says Mayor Peter Ostenrieder.

They could increase further due to the delay that has now occurred.

It is therefore more questionable than ever whether the general renovation will be implemented to the planned extent.

"A project of this financial magnitude, which is now known, should not be manageable for the Peiting market," the head of the town hall makes clear, with a view to the tense budget situation.

Like many other municipalities, the market is also struggling with disproportionately high costs and at the same time collapsing income, which will not allow for any major leaps in the coming years.

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Schongau newsletter.)

If the municipal council, which will adopt the budget for the current year on May 9th, cuts costs for the general renovation, renegotiations with the federal government will also have to be carried out as to whether the already promised funding of two million euros will continue to be used, at least proportionately can.

"There will still be a few challenges to be tackled in the coming weeks and months," Ostenrieder suspects.

Fire safety causes problems

In view of the delay, there is also a risk of trouble from the supervisory authorities.

Because in the course of the investigations for the renovation, deficiencies in fire protection were noticed, which should be remedied with the replacement of the roof.

According to Ostenrieder, the extent to which this current situation can be tolerated is currently being clarified.

"The safety of the athletes and the visitors is the top priority."
