Minister Mai Golan to MK Merav Ben Ari: "Your croaking bothers me" (Knesset Channel)
The Knesset plenum approved this evening (Monday) the establishment of the Ministry for the Advancement of the Status of Women, and the appointment of Mai Golan as the minister responsible for it.
38 Knesset members supported the decision compared to 23 who opposed it.
Also, a message was given to the plenum regarding the government's intention to transfer from the Ministry for Social Equality to the Ministry for the Advancement of the Status of Women the area of action for the advancement of the status of women, including the responsibility for the Authority for the Advancement of the Status of Women.
Golan has so far served as an official without a portfolio in the prime minister's office and now a new office will be established for her.
The Authority for the Status of Women was until today under the responsibility of Minister Amichai Shikli's Ministry for Social Equality.
Golan joins Minister of Information Galit Distel-Atbarian, who was also initially appointed minister without a portfolio and later the Ministry of Information was re-established for her.
Immediately after the appointment, Minister Golan confronted MK Merav Ben Ari and told her, among other things: "You are a lying hypocrite, that is what you are and what you will be all your life."
You are a wretched soul." Ben Ari answered her: "You are a shame and a disgrace to the Knesset, you are a shame and a disgrace to the women of the country." Golan continued and also said: "You are a shame and whoever brought you into politics is a shame!

Before confirming the appointment, Golan referred to the opposition's lengthy discussion before the vote: "I'm proud of it, but I expected there to be a paragon here, advancing the status of women is not something that belongs only to the left or the right. On a historical level, after 75 years of existence - this office is being established. Who should congratulate Is that if it's not the left? As a woman, I'm not of interest to them because I don't serve the ultimate goal."
Golan added: "I will not do anything, anywhere, I commit to act for all women."
The confrontation between the two developed after MK Ben Ari Bach criticized Minister Golan's lack of action for women and the manner of voting on the electronic handcuffing bill
About two weeks ago, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu suggested that Sara May Golan be appointed Consul General in New York in place of Assaf Zamir who resigned from his position.
However, in the United States they expressed displeasure regarding the possibility.
Acting spokesperson for the US State Department Vedant Patel commented on this and said.
"We condemn racist statements and believe that the use of such language by people in leadership positions causes particularly great harm."
