Thinking about the future: Sony is developing ten different online games - voila! The gaming channel

The head of Sony's developer division plans to adopt the Live Service model in exclusive multiplayer games to be released by 2025

Sony has undergone a very big change in recent years.

It started to release its games, which until today were exclusive to the PlayStation consoles, also for the PC.

This is how she opened herself up to a completely new target audience.

She also decided to invest her future in two areas that she has hardly touched until now: Live Service and mobile games.

This is how it is when the management at Sony promises investors revenue growth until the end of 2025.

In today's industry the situation where every company must have a constant cash flow that comes from a micro-payments model has become the standard.

After all, development is a long and complex process, and there is no reason for the money that goes into the company to end after a purchase of 60-70 dollars.

Not when there are digital stores that sell skins, items, Season Pass, and other goodies that the players pay for with real money.

Just look at the success of games like Fortnite or Call of Duty.

And Sony has made a lot of strides in the past two years that have prepared it for these moments.

It has acquired quite a few companies whose role will be to work on lots of new online and mobile games.

Ones that will be regularly updated with new content for the games' digital stores.

It started with the acquisition of Bungie, which is known for developing the successful Destiny series.

This is exactly the kind of brand Sony needs.

After all Destiny has had an established community for a decade.

She was also the one who originally developed the Halo series, so who better for the role?

Sony also acquired Haven Studios and indie Firewalk Studios for online games, and Savage Game Studios last year.

Then came the mobile developer Savage Game Studios.

The direction is clear.

Mobile and Live Service.

And it's not just about new games that will be based on a new brand.

We already know that Sony is planning a network game for the Horizon series.

The one who shed a little more light on the subject this week is

Hermann Holst

, the director of PlayStation's exclusive keys division, who was interviewed this week by Gameindustry.biz magazine and revealed that ten Live Service games are currently being planned.

And if it sounds like too much for you all at once, Holst calms and reduces flames.

He doesn't guarantee that every new game will succeed at the level of Fortnite or Call of Duty.

He is even aware of the fact that one of them, or even most of them, may fail.

The market is very competitive after all.

But if only one of the games manages to reach the level of Call of Duty or Fortnite - this is a huge and profitable achievement for Sony.

Holst does not expect all ten games to catch on and be considered a resounding success.

He guarantees that each game will be of a different size, a different genre, and will be released at different times.

Sony knows that they are aiming for a number of diverse audiences, and of course some of these games will also be launched on PC.

All these projects are supposed to reach us by 2025.

Sony is expected to have very tough competition in the future.

The industry is bursting with mobile and live service games left and right, and sometimes the maintenance of those games can turn out to be an unprofitable or profitable move in the long run.

But Sony believes in the brand they have built and their ability to reach as many players as possible.

I personally believe that Sony will give its multiplayer games the same dedicated treatment that it gives its single player games.

But will she succeed in standing out in the market?

only time will tell.
