After Marcela Pagano denounced censorship, Grupo América said it fired her for "labour violence"

2023-05-03T00:51:22.951Z

The company that owns A24 - where the journalist was driving a cycle - issued a statement with details of a summary that they initiated against the journalist. She had spoken of 'explicit prohibitions' to invite interviewees.

One day after Marcela Pagano denounced from her social networks that her dismissal from the A24 cable signal had been an act of

"censorship"

by Grupo América, the outlet owned by businessmen Daniel Vila and José Luis Manzano issued a statement in which he confirmed

that the journalist was fired last Friday, but "with cause"

, as a result of an internal investigation that found her responsible -according to the station- for exercising

"labor violence"

.

In a letterhead text but

without a signature

, the media group stated on Tuesday that "Marcela Pagano was separated from A24 last Friday, April 28," confirming what the journalist posted.

But the company framed her departure in another alleged context.

"After an

exhaustive internal administrative investigation,

it was decided to dismiss her with cause for episodes of labor mistreatment," she pointed out.

The statement goes directly to what

they consider "the facts"

, which occupy a large part of the text, and are extracts from statements by anonymous witnesses and a

complainant

in the summary, which began on March 31 in the Human Capital area of the channel. .

"We will preserve their names so

that they are not slandered on social networks

, but we have their signed testimonies," the company clarifies in the text released.

However, they say that the complainant is "a

journalistic producer, with 18 years of seniority

in the company."

"Following that first complaint, an internal administrative investigation was opened where

ten people

who worked with the host of the PQS program

gave testimony

," insists the document distributed to the press and identifies phrases from the statements as coming from a

"producer," " producer" or "columnist"

, who reaffirm a common accusatory story.

Everything revolves around what would be

an episode of "shouting" over the phone

against the anonymous complainant and certain disqualifying words that they attribute to the thrown driver.

The company states that "Marcela Pagano received a transfer of the complaint on April 4 and, six days later,

presented her corresponding defense

, where she generically rejected the complaint."

The journalist made it clear that she considered it

"false, malicious, extemporaneous and inappropriate"

.

The alleged accusations against Pagano - who plainly framed his dismissal in an episode of "censorship" and compared it to the departure of Viviana Canosa from the same medium - speak of "crying", of "abuse of power" in her role as host

and

of "violent, contemptuous and malicious" treatment.

They do not record any physical situation, more than a surreptitious mention that they attribute to the journalist "throwing her personal belongings

in a bad way

to the complainant on her computer."

Several references from anonymous witnesses

highlight other issues

.

It is frequent -and literally repetitive- the insistence on highlighting the

"changes in mood"

that they attribute to Pagano -text attributed to two men with the role of "producer", who was sometimes "

very upset"

, according to what one would have said. or a "columnist", or who "got upset".

"

There was arrogance in Pagano

in the newspaper where he complicated the work operation and generated a tense climate", they attribute to a "producer" witness.

"The mistreatment of Mrs. Pagano interferes with the work environment and the production process,

directly attacking the screen and moving to the rating

", they attribute as testimony to a "producer" who would have given a testimony particularly concerned about the business results.

Grupo América concluded its statement with a legal tone paragraph.

"Taking into account international, national and internal regulations for the prevention and eradication of workplace violence in the field of labor relations, on April 28 the company notified Pagano of the termination of the employment contract due to his sole fault

,

invoking the

loss of trust

caused as a consequence of her

insulting behavior

towards her co-workers who assisted her daily".

What Marcela Pagano denounced before her dismissal

"After enduring seven months of pressure, I finally understood that it was

impossible to do journalism

with the people who run that signal today," the journalist attacked this Monday in a text that she posted on her social networks and later

mentioned the "director of the channel, Daniel Vila, and his current journalistic manager, Rolando Graña"

.

"

I never had a single problem

with a partner or authority," he wrote, after reviewing his 17-year career in various media.

And she countered the arguments now made explicit by the company before her abrupt departure: "To

justify the impossible in an election year

, they want to dirty my image when I am an honest and professional worker who lives on her salary."

Pagano recalled the scandalous departure of Viviana Canosa and suggested other cases.

And then he slipped a gender issue.

"There is a

hostile

and 'overwhelming' [sic]

recurrence

against women on that screen

, which several of my former and current colleagues can attest to."

Finally, the driver

pointed to political reasons in her dismissal

.

She said that her separation had a

"striking urgency"

that coincided with an "improvement" in her "audience measurement", when she addressed

economic issues

, a specialty of the journalist.

"Throwing me out after two years and two months of driving

in full swing of the dollar

and with the future in suspense of the current administration

is significant

," he said.

And although he clarified that he "never" received "a direct call from anyone from the Ministry of Economy" to limit his "gaze as a journalist", he pointed out what he considered

restrictions on his freedom of expression

.

"I want to tell you that

my freedom to ask questions has been curtailed

in the last month. I received

explicit prohibitions

to invite anyone linked to Mauricio Macri, Patricia Bullrich and Kirchnerist economists not aligned with a certain wing of the Frente de Todos policy, such as Julia Strada or Sergio Chouza", he listed.

But he went further in what he considered limitations to his coverage of economic issues.

Grupo América is owned by

Vila y Manzano

, who have a known friendship

with the current minister Sergio Massa

.

Another important figure in the crisis is Martín Sierra, from the channel's Institutional Relations area, which is the

link between the channel and the ruling party

, especially with figures such as Máximo Kirchner and Wado de Pedro.

Javier Milei, interviewed in A24 by Marcela Pagano.

The journalist linked that interview to the reasons for his dismissal.

tv capture

"In the last few weeks

they prohibited me from putting

on the plates and videographing

that the dollar had risen

, I could only count on the air when it went down," Pagano said and continued: "I rebelled against this decision, which I was even notified while on the air while made an economic column".

And he considered that "the straw that broke the camel's back" was having

interviewed Javier Milei

.
