Border Guard soldiers operating in the area surrounding Jerusalem near the village of Bituna today (Wednesday) located a wounded deer stuck in the bushes next to the perimeter fence near Jerusalem.
With the help of the Nature and Parks Authority team that arrived on the scene, the deer was rescued and transferred to the authority's wildlife hospital for further medical treatment as its health condition is poor.
The deer belongs to the "Israeli deer" variety, which is the most common of the three species of deer that exist in Israel, along with Negev deer and Shitim deer.
Despite its relative prevalence, its population as of the end of 2021 is estimated at only 4,300 individuals, and it is defined as an endangered species.

About a month ago, two fin sharks, an endangered species, were caught in a fishing net near Ashdod beach.
One of them was released, while the other was put on the boat by the fishermen, released and returned to the sea.
"I received a report this morning from anglers (on the beach), who tried to warn the fishermen in the boat not to deploy a net in the area because they noticed sharks near them, but the net was deployed anyway since there is no fishing limit in this area," said Guy Levian, a marine unit inspector at the Nature and Parks Authority.
After a few minutes they noticed that two sharks were caught in the net, and they tried to break free and went wild.
Indeed, after a short time, one shark managed to break free.
"I arrived at the beach and tried to locate the second shark with the help of a drone, but I didn't succeed because the water was very cloudy, Guy added. "After about two hours, the fishing boat returned and with the help of the Coast Patrol Association, they were directed to the point in the net where the shark was caught.
The fishermen began to lift the net and indeed saw that a fin shark had been caught in it which was still alive.
