Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky arrived in the Netherlands on Wednesday evening May 3 for an unexpected visit, during which he must notably visit the International Criminal Court (ICC), according to the Dutch press agency ANP.
Zelensky, who is on his first visit to the country, landed at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol after attending a Nordic summit in Helsinki, according to the ANP.
The agency released several photos, including one of an aircraft, claiming it is the Dutch government plane likely carrying the Ukrainian president.
According to the ANP, Volodymyr Zelensky is due to visit the International Criminal Court (ICC), which sits in The Hague, on Thursday and issued an arrest warrant against Russian President Vladimir Putin in March.
The Ukrainian president is expected to deliver a speech in the same city on the same day titled “No peace without justice for Ukraine,” according to state broadcaster NOS.
A meeting with Dutch MPs is planned as well as an interview with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte, the ANP reported, citing unnamed sources.
14 Leopard 2 tanks
The Netherlands has supported Ukraine since the Russian invasion of February 2022. The country notably announced last month that it was going to buy 165 million euros with Denmark 14 Leopard 2 tanks in order to give them Kiev, which calls for more heavy weapons.
Volodymyr Zelensky made a surprise visit to Finland on Wednesday, where he stressed that this year, in which he promised further offensives against the Russian aggressor, would be
"decisive for Ukraine and Europe"
in the face of Russia.
The president also denied any Ukrainian attack targeting his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, after Moscow claimed to have shot down two drones launched against the Kremlin compound in Moscow.
Volodymyr Zelensky also participated in a summit of the Nordic countries in Helsinki with the Prime Ministers of Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Iceland.
