Cannes Film Festival: Julia Ducournau, Palme d'Or 2021, and Brie Larson, Oscar winner, in the jury

The jury, which will award the Palme d'Or on May 27 on the Croisette, is also made up of Maryam Touzani, Denis Ménochet, Rungano Nyoni, Paul Dano, Atiq Rahimi and Damian Szifron.


French director Julia Ducournau, Palme d'Or in 2021 with

and American actress Brie Larson, Oscar winner for

, are on the jury of the 76th Cannes Film Festival (May 16-27), chaired by the Swede Ruben Östlund, the organizers announced on Thursday.

This jury, made up of five men and four women, thus includes the last two winners of the ultimate award given on the Croisette, Östlund having won its second Palme d'Or last year for

Sans Filtre.

His mission will be to choose the Palme d'Or 2023 from among the 21 films announced in competition, including

Asteroid City

by Wes Anderson,

Anatomy of a Fall

by Justine Triet,

Monster

by Hirokazu Kore-eda, winner in 2018 with

A Case of family

, or

The return

of Catherine Corsini.

This jury is also made up of Moroccan director Maryam Touzani (

Le bleu du caftan

), French actor Denis Ménochet (

As Bestas

), British-Zambian director Rungano Nyoni (

I'm not a witch

), American actor and director Paul Dano (

Okja

), Afghan writer and director Atiq Rahimi (Goncourt Prize in 2008 for his novel

Syngué sabour

) and Argentinian filmmaker Damian Szifron (

Les Nouveaux Sauvages

).

To constitute this jury, the organizers underlined in a press release that they wanted to "welcome the arrival of a generation of artists who produce, who play, who sing, who write".

He will announce his prize list on Saturday 27 May in the evening.
