Some airline passengers like to save money by flying with hand luggage only.

This is then stowed in the cabin in the luggage compartment above the seats, together with jackets, bags and whatever else is with you.

The TikToker @HillnPoo recently got upset about this.

Why jackets can be a nuisance on a plane

Anyone who carelessly puts their jacket in the overhead compartment on an airplane can spark disputes among fellow passengers.

That's what Tiktokerin @HillnPoo told her followers.

In a video on her account, she says: "If you plan to fly in 2023, please don't be one of those people who will clog an entire overhead compartment with jackets.

Please leave them where they are.

This is an absolute waste of space.

They can be on your lap, most airlines have hooks for that.”

@hillnpoo Are we wrong for thinking jackets in the overhead is a crime?

Her video has been widely commented on and people are divided on it.

Some agreed, writing: "Yes please!

It's an overhead locker, not a cloakroom." A (alleged) flight attendant also backed the advice, saying: "Hi, I'm a flight attendant and I hate it when passengers stuff their jackets in the overhead locker.

Please wait until the luggage is in the compartments before putting your coat in.”

The TikToker's temper seems to be really heating up with the clogged overhead bins.

In another video she appeals: "Put your jacket on top of your luggage so that it doesn't take up so much space.

I always make sure there is room for other people's luggage, it's a matter of courtesy!”

@hillnpoo Replying to @jaclyn or put your jacket on top of your baggage so that it doesnt take up more space.

I always make sure there is space for people's luggage, it is just common courtesy !

Speaking of heating: For safety reasons, these items do not belong in the overhead compartment on the plane

Jackets aren't the only items passengers shouldn't stow in overhead bins.

However, while jackets are a matter of taste and sensitivity, other things are simply about safety on board: Devices such as smartphones, tablets and laptops can pose a risk if left in pockets.

The reason: overheating and damaged batteries can cause fires.

If these occur in the overhead compartments, flight attendants cannot find out quickly enough.

For this reason, these devices should never be stowed in suitcases.

Because if a fire breaks out in the cargo hold, it cannot be extinguished at all.

This is always pointed out at airports and airlines for security reasons.
