A state of “natural disaster” was granted by a government decree published in the Official Journal on Wednesday for 47 municipalities in the Alpes-Maritimes department.

This decision is linked to the extreme drought of 2022. These exceptional climatic conditions have led to claims in private properties, such as cracked walls due to very dry soil.

The recognition by the government of this state of natural disaster will allow individuals to operate their insurance.

This

“may give rise to the right to the hasty guarantee”

, can we read in the decree, which is based on the insurance code.

The decree clearly states that

"the direct material damage had the determining cause of the effect of this natural agent"

, namely a significant water deficit.

Among the 47 Maralpine towns, Antibes, Biot, Cagnes-sur-Mer, Falicon, Gattières, Grasse, Mandelieu-la-Napoule, Saint-Paul-de-Vence, Vallauris, Villefranche-sur-Mer and Villeneuve-Loubet.

People likely to be able to benefit from compensation from their insurance have 30 days from the publication of this decree to estimate their losses.

They will thus be able to take advantage of the compensation scheme.

For some cities, the decree counts for the whole year or from April 1 or even July 1 and only until September.

The cases of other important municipalities on the Côte d'Azur will be examined in the coming weeks.

Those of Cannes, Drap, Mougins or Nice could also be characterized as a state of natural disaster for 2022. This year again, and for the third in a row, the Alpes-Maritimes department is experiencing an early drought.

The whole territory is placed in vigilance and a part went into heightened vigilance last week.

Despite a rainy May 1st weekend, the situation remains worrying as summer approaches and with an already greater water deficit.
