An issue that you don't have to worry about as much: A holiday region in Austria wants to pay for tourists to travel there for a limited period of time.

In recent months, the energy crisis and inflation have meant that many Germans have had to tighten their wallets.

After two years of the Corona crisis, only very few people want to go on vacation.

So it's just right that the holiday region of Seefeld in the Austrian Tyrol wants to reduce the cost of the journey - at least under certain conditions.

Seefeld in Tirol: Arrivals by bus and train are paid for by the holiday region

There is a special reason for the "Free travel to holiday happiness" campaign, which the Seefeld Tourist Association presents on its website.

The holiday region wants to use it to do something for the climate: "Did you know that one kilometer traveled by car is 15 times more harmful to the climate than the same distance by train?" says the website.

In order to reduce the CO₂ footprint, guests who travel by train or FlixBus should be rewarded.

This is planned in the form of a reimbursement of travel expenses, which is limited to 150 euros per person for arrival and departure - for children to 75 euros.

A new train station and bus terminal in Seefeld should ensure that tourists arriving by public transport are well connected.

But if you want to take part, you have to be quick: the campaign was given a budget of 60,000 euros, which has already halved since the beginning.

There are also a few conditions: only holidaymakers who have booked a stay of at least five nights in the period from June 1st to November 30th, 2023 in accommodation in Seefeld, Leutasch, Mösern, Reith or Scharnitz are eligible.

Tourists have to fill out an online form after booking and upload the relevant supporting documents.

After a processing time of around three to five days, you will be informed whether the travel expenses will be reimbursed.

The money is then returned on site at the information office.

Upon arrival, guests also receive a guest card, the so-called PlateauCard, which entitles them to discounts on certain attractions.

But what does the Seefeld holiday region actually have to offer?

Here are the key data: It is located between the Wetterstein Mountains and the Karwendel on a high plateau at 1,200 meters.

Vacationers find themselves in the midst of mountains and valleys as well as forests and meadows that offer a variety of activities.

Cycling, hiking and climbing are popular activities for tourists in the region.

Incidentally, a similar campaign has already taken place in Italy - but primarily to attract more tourists to the Friuli-Venezia Giulia region.
