Police unions demanded, in a letter addressed to Emmanuel Macron Thursday, May 4, an "
emergency
anti-thugs law
", ensuring that the police live in an "
apocalyptic situation
" in the face of the "
violence
" which punctuates the demonstrations.
Grouped within the union bloc led by Alliance, these unions obtained an appointment on Friday, and are expected at the Elysee Palace on May 12 at ten o'clock, they announced to AFP.
They will then be received by Emmanuel Macron's chief of staff, Patrick Strzoda and the president's security adviser, Frédéric Rose.
Our goal is to be received by the Head of State.
Éric Henry, Alliance spokesperson
“
This is a first step.
Our goal is to be received by the Head of State
,” explained a spokesperson for Alliance, Éric Henry.
This letter does not show any mistrust on their part vis-à-vis the Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin.
Far from there.
“
The support of our supervisory minister no longer needs to be demonstrated, but it must be multiplied by all the political leaders, including the first among them;
you, Mr. President
,” they wrote.

Gérald Darmanin had again called on Tuesday for the development of an anti-breakers law.
But on Wednesday, government spokesman Olivier Véran was cautious, arguing that there was "no
response at this stage
" on the need for a new law.
Olivier Véran also recalled that in 2019, the Constitutional Council had emptied a similar text of its objective, by censoring the possibility for prefects to issue administrative bans on demonstrations.
"Unheard-of violence"
Nevertheless, the Keeper of the Seals Éric Dupond-Moretti and Gérald Darmanin must study the question.
In its letter to Emmanuel Macron, the union bloc, the majority within the police, denounces "
the incredible violence
" that the police have to face during the demonstrations.
This call comes after the demonstrations of May 1 marked in several cities including Paris by many injured among the police.

Trade unionists are calling for "
a criminal response with a minimum sentence for law enforcement aggressors from the first act committed
", "
the creation of an offense of incitement to hatred or to commit a crime against the police of order
", "
the absolute urgency of an anti-thug law
", and the "
legal protection of the use of drones for preventive and judicial purposes
", as well as salary increase measures.
