Carrie Fisher, who famously played Princess Leia in the Star Wars film, received her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on Thursday in what was billed as a "May 4 tribute" (for " May the Fourth", in English, which plays phonetically with the famous phrase "May the Force be with you", "That the Force be with you").

Billie Lourd, daughter of the late actress, wore a metallic dress with the image of her mother for the occasion, accepting the star.

"My mom used to say you weren't really famous until you became a candy dispenser. Well, people eat candy out of their necks [referring to dispensers with their image on them]. I say you're not really famous until that you have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Now my mom has both: a candy dispenser and the star on the Walk of Fame. Mom, you did it."

Mark Hamill, who played Fisher's brother in the film, Luke Skywalker, was present and recalled meeting the young actress, who was then only 19 years old.

"She played a crucial role in my personal and professional life and both would have been so much emptier without her. Was it difficult to control? High maintenance? Absolutely! But it would all have been drab and less interesting if she hadn't been the friend she was," Hamill said.

C-3PO and R2-D2 were present at the unveiling of the star.

"Never forget the androids!" Lourd commented on a rainy day that gave way to sunshine.

Fisher, who died in 2016, joins Star Wars stars Harrison Ford and Hamill on the Walk of Fame, a tourist attraction honoring luminaries from film, television, music and other entertainment industries.

The trio of stars are located in the 6800 block of Hollywood Boulevard, near the site where the film was released in 1977.

Fisher played Leia Organa, who over the course of six films morphed from princess to general, leading the forces of good in their fight against oppressive regimes seeking control of a galaxy, far, far away.

"No one is ever going to be as pretty and graceful as Princess Leia

," Lourd stated.

"Leia is much more than a character. It's a feeling. It's strength. It's elegance. It's intelligence. It's feminism at its best. She knows what she wants and she gets it. She doesn't need anyone to rescue her because she rescues herself herself and even rescues rescuers. No one could have played the character like my mom did."
